WALKERTON TOWN BOARD MINUTES The Town Board of Walkerton met in regular session on August 27, 1984 at 7:00 p.m. in the town hall with the following members present: Arthur Heemer, Edward Bracich. E. Clifford Ward, Margaret Gaddis and Greg Williams. Kathryn Tiede Chrapliwy, clerk treasurer, and James Clevenger, town attorney, were also present. The minutes for the meeting of August 20th were approved as written by a motion by Bracich. seconded by Williams. The 1985 budget was presented for adoption. The 1985 budget is for $495,197.00. The 1985 budget was a dot ped as presented on a motion by Williams, seconded by Bracich. All voted in favor. A report from Wayne Francis, representative from Clyde E. Williams & Associates, was given on the Wastewater Treatment Plant. On this day at 3:00 p.m. the following people were present for the startup of the plant, Paul Fallon from HRP, Wayne Francis from Clyde E. Williams & Associates, E. Clifford Ward, Greg Williams, Ed ward Bracich, Town Board trustees; Jeff Zehner, plant operator; and Kathryn Chrapliwy. clerk treasurer. Mr. Wayne Francis made the following recommenda tion to the Town Board: "The Town Board based upon today*s tour, conducted by the contractor thru the plant facilities accept the facility as substantially complete subject to the preparation of the detailed inspection punch list to accompany the substantially completion certifi cate which later will be submitted to the Town upon completion of said punch list". Mr. Paul Fallon also presented a letter addressed to Clyde E. Williams & Associates requesting time extensions on the project if needed. Details of the letter are on file in the clerk's office. Mr. Heemer made a motion to authorize Jeff Zehner to accompany Gyde E. Williams & Associates inspection team on site and ^ork as a direct liason between the plant and Town Board. Bracich seconded the motion and all voted in favor. Resolution 84-3 which reads: Where's, the Administrators of the Public Employees’ Retirement Fund (PERF) require all participating governmental bodies to authorize one individual to verify credible service for Town employees and respond to other inquiries, and Whereas, the clerk-treasurer of the Town of Walkerton is the individual best suited for the Town of Walkerton to verify service and respond to other inquiries from PERF; Now therefore, be it resolved by the Board of Trustees of the Town of Walkerton, presently Kathryn Tiede Chrapliwy, is hereby authorized to be that individual verifying service and responding to other PERF inquiries. Resolution 84-3 was passed on a motion by Williams, seconded by Bracich. NEW BUSINESS: Mr. Bracich informed the board that people have been parking on Tyler Street sidewalks and he was afraid that the sidewalks would be damaged. Therefore Mr. Bracich made a motion to instruct Marvin Williams to place “No Parking On (continued on Page 2)

JG ATHLETIC BOOSTERS TO MEET The first meeting of the John Glenn Athletic Boosters will be held on Thursday, September 13, at 6:30 p.m., in the high school library. The purpose of the organization is to enhance the experience of participating in athletics for all John Glenn students. Mr. Zeller, John Glenn principal and Mr. Schuler, Urey Middle School principal, will be the guests of the club. Come out and meet vour new administrators, became acquainted with our plans and support our student athletes. P.S.T.A. MEETING FOR UREY MIDDLE SCHOOL There will be a P.T.S.A. meeting for Urey parents, teachers and students on Wednesday, September 12. at 7:30 p.m., at the Urey Middle School. HERITAGE ARTS AND CRAFTS WORKSHOPS The Northern Indiana Historical Society will offer its Fall Series of Heritage Arts & Crafts Workshops from September 22 to December 2. The instructors of the folk crafts will include several area craftsmen Nancy and Ron Eversole will be returning, and June Frazier and Mrs. John Yoder will join them in presenting the fall classes. Nancy Eversole is known throughout the Great Lakes Region as "The Ken tucky Woman" in her performance as singer, dulcimer player and crafts person. She comes from a family of weavers in the Kentucky mountains and has personally been involved in folk crafts for IS years. Ron Eversole, also from Kentucky, has been whittling, carving, dulcimer making and working with folk crafts for 40 years. June Frazier is well known in the Michiana Area as a "prize winning” cook and seamstress, and through out the fall she can be found at the many historical fairs demonstrating the art of soapmaking. Mrs. John Yoder is a familiar face at the Museum as one of its outstanding tour guides and will be getting everyone in the Christmas spirit with her class on crocheted angels. The double elimination tournament will be held at Place Park and is limited to 12 teams. The entry fee is $85.00. Deadline for entry is September 18. Sponsor trophies will go to the first, second and third place teams. There will be 15 individual trophies for the first place team. JOHN GLENN SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES The Board of Trustees of the John Glenn School Corporation met on August 30. 1984 in the library of John Glenn High School. Dr. Smith, superintendent, and all members of the Board with the exception of Mrs. Manuel were present. The special meeting for adoption of the 1985 budget convened at 7:30 p.m. There was on observer , present. Following a motion by Mr. Stull, seconded by Mrs. Beem, the Board voted unanimously to approve the minutes of the August 23. 1984 meeting. OLD BUSINESS A. 1985 Budget Adoption: Following a motion by Mr. Millar, seconded by Mr. Hostetler, the Board voted unanimously to approve the 1985 budget and tax rates as advertised. The Board reiterated its hope that the actual assessed valuation will be higher than that advertised, this would then lower the actual tax rates Adopted budgets and rates are as follows: General Fund, $3,506,325, rate >1.9123. Debt Service Fund, $1,100,200. rate $1.9278. Transportation Fund, $330,500, rate $0.5661 Cumulative Building Fund, rate $0.25. The total rate is $4.6562 and the estimated assessed valuation is $42,000,000. There being no futher business to come before the Board, following a motion by Mr. Millar, seconded by Mr. Ludwig, the Board voted unanimously to adjourn at 7:50 p.m. The Board will meet in regular session on September 4, 1984, at 7:30 p.m at Walkerton Elementary School. Woman’s Club To Open Season Friday, Sept. 7 Program books will be exchang ed for dues when the GWFC Wo man's Community Club meets Friday, September 7, at the Com munity Building tn Walkerton. A carry-in luncheon will begin at 12:00 noon, according to club president Alice Walker Beginning her second term as I president. Mrs. Walker said the report on the audit of the treasurer's book will also be given All members should be prepared to pay their annual dues when they arrive at the meeting. KOONTZ LAKE ASSOCIATION TO HOLD MEETING The Koontz Lake Association will have an informal discussion meeting on Sunday, September 9. at the Koontz Lake Conservation Gub. at 2:00 p.m.. according to Gaude Nowakowski, president of the Association. SENIOR FELLOWSHIP CLUB TO MEET MONDAY The Senior Fellowship Gub will meet on Monday. September 10, ar 12:00 noon, at Stuntz-Hochstetler Pine Forest for their last picnic of the year.
