Mr. and Mrs. Claude Sheneman were Saturday evening supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Pogodzinski, of near Walkerton. Jeffrey B. Cripe, grandson of Lydia and Robert E. Cripe, was recently inducted into the National Honor Society at Morgan Park High School, Chicago. Illinois. The National Honor Society is a nationwide organization for outstanding juniors and seniors with a grade point overage of at least 4.00 for a junior and 3.5 average for a senior along with leadership, service and character. Jeffrey is a junior. He also was awarded $25.00 in the 6th annual Chicago Metro History Fair for his project entitled, “Ballooning In Chicago” which he submitted a display and paper concerning ballon frame architecture in Chicago from 1836-1870. Rev. and Mrs. Robert C. Bowman, Koontz Lake, experienced a happy family reunion extending over a two week period. lately Richard Kane, of Ponta Verda, Florida, and his daughter, Helen Rae Samstag, of Shaker Heights, Ohio, in-law and niece of Helen Bowman. Helen Decker and Helen Smith returned home Friday morning after spending a week in Honea Path, South Carolina, where they visited Mrs. Decker’s son, Frederick, who was in the hospital, at Anderson, South Carolina, after having suffered a heart attack on June 30. Mrs. Mildred Casey, Koontz Lake, and guest and Mrs. Burk Neville, of Roundhead, Ohio, stopped briefly for a visit with Mary Jane Beaty on Friday. As Mrs. Beaty was a high school graduate of Roundhead, they enjoyed getting information about people in that area of long ago. Mrs. Kathy Delaney and Dawn, of Lafayette, were here on Sunday to attend the bridal shower for Jill Knowlton, held at the North Liberty United Methodist Church. Bruce and Brian Mercer were among a group that returned home last weekend from Northern Min-

nesota on a canoeing trip. The group was comprised of Senior Highs from the Northern Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Churches. They found to their surprise when they entered the group, a granddaughter of Mrs. Jeanette Guttman in the group and another granddaughter as a counselour of the group, from Sheridan, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. James Guttman. William, Albert and Dorothea Brenner have returned from a trip to Colorado. They visited Bill’s son, William, Jr., his wife, Lucy, and their daughters, Erica and Tami, at Fort Collins. Bill’s son Charles, and his wife, Sharon, came from Grand Junction, Colorado, to visit with the family. The weather was delightful as they missed the storm through lowa and Nebraska on their return trip. Mrs. Vee Shogren had her relatives from Illinois and Michigan last weekend and this week. They are enjoying and relaxing in the Koontz Lake area and other interesting spots in Indiana. , Amanda and John Gillies, of Springfield, Virginia, are spending a week at Koontz Lake with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Gillies. Mrs. Nellie Smith spent the weekend with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Warner Clark, at Koontz Lake. Mrs. Nora Hahn was a Sunday guest. The 60th birthday of Mrs. Viola Barden was celebrated Saturday night with dinner at Ponderosa, in South Bend. The guests were Mr. and Mrs. Herald Hostetler, Mr. and Mrs. Leigh Roy Hahn, Mrs. Helen Smith and Mrs. Goldie Skinner. Mrs. Carolee Epperson, of Lake Station, was a Sunday evening guest of her mother, Mrs. Esther Kaufman. The bus trip to Shipshewana was cancelled due to not enough reservations. The Steele Reunion was held Sunday at Stuntz-Hochstetler Pines, with 34 present. Mr. Robert Steele, of Mishawaka, will be the president for next year’s reunion. Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Hoover, of Magician Lake, Michigan, spent the weekend in Walkerton as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Uilery. They had dinner at Pinders, in Culver, on Saturday evening celebrating the wedding anniversary of the Hoovers. Mr. and Mrs. Eli Ivancevich, of Koontz Lake, will be hosts for the Saturday evening dinner meeting of the Koontz Lake Conservation Club at the club house. Mr. and Mrs. Vern Betz, of Mesa, Arizona, left last week for their home after a two week visit here with relatives and friends. While here they attended the Ward family reunion held in North Liberty and they were house guests of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Betz. Mr. and Mrs. Myron Mullet were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Lockenbaugh, in Millersburgh, Indiana. Miss Gina Holt, of Cicero, Illinois, is a guest of her aunt, Mrs. Joseph Smilley, at Koontz Lake. Miss Julia Burchfield, of Chesterton, spent a few days at Koontz Lake visiting her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Oren Duthie. Mr. and Mrs. Todd Beyerl, of Wheaton, Illinois, and Mr. Loren Capek, of Chicago, were weekend guests of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Capek, Jr. Other guests for Sunday were Mrs. Flossie Fitzgerald and Mr. and Mrs. James Capek, Sr. A family get-together was held Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Henry and sons, at Koontz Lake. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schortgen and Kevin, Mrs. Karen Barden and two sons, Mr. and Mrs. Mike McDurmott, of LaPorte, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Carnes and family, of Rochester, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Carnes, of Argos, Mrs. Helena Burton, of Lakeville, and Mrs. Myrtle Campbell, of Elkhart.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter LaFaber and Suzanne, of Ithaca, New York, accompanied his mother, Mrs. Helen LaFeber, home after a short stay at their home in New York. While here Mr. and Mrs. Walter LaFeber visited other relatives and friends besides making some side trips to various places. While on vacation they spent several days in Rockport, Massachusetts. Walter is a professor of Diplomatic History at Cornell University and enjoys seeing his friends in Walkerton when he comes home. Callers at the Claude Sheneman home over the weekend were Theda Carlson, of South Bend; Mr. and Mrs. Gene Patrick; Tammy Stull; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stoneburner; Harold Rust, all of near Walkerton; and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Pummert. Homemade ice cream and cake were enjoyed on Sunday evening. HONORED WITH BRIDAL SHOWER A bridal shower was held for Jill Knowlton on Saturday, July 14, at the North Liberty United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Guests were present from Elkhart, Lafayette, Walkerton and North Liberty. Games were played and prizes won by Carol Alspaugh, Michelle Hanley and Marilyn Davis. The shower was given by Birdie Bulla, Shirley Pearson and Diane Hevel. Jill received many lovely presents. Jill will become the bride of Gene Davis on August 4. Classifieds begin at $1.50.

BABY SHOWER A baby shower was given Sunday in the fellowship hall of the Church of Christ, of North Liberty. The hosts were Mrs. Charles Hensley, Mrs. Karen Hensley, Mrs. Sue Lemert, Mrs. Barbara Eastburn and Mrs. Sandy Tumbleson, of Lakeville. The shower was given for Mrs. Lori Parsons. Games were played, refreshments of punch, cake, mints and nuts were served by the hostesses. Lori received many beautiful and useful gifts for which she was very thankful. SURPRISE BRIDAL SHOWER Following their softball game the Hiler Girls Softball Team gave a surprise bridal shower for team member Jill Knowlton at the home of her aunt, Sharon Drews. Jill received many lovely gifts and the evening ended with swimming. Jill was pleasantly surprised and her efforts to help Hiler’s win that night gave her crutches and a walking cast the next day. Miss Knowlton will become the bride of Gene Davis on August 4. KAERCHER FAMILY REUNION The annual Kaercher family reunion was held at Centennial Park, in Plymouth, with 55 guests attending coming from Georgia, Florida, Orland Park, Palos Heights and Chicago, Illinois as well as LaPorte and Walkerton.
