POTATO CREEK ART & CRAFTS CONTEST RULES The following are the contest rules of the Zetz Pi chapter of Tri Kappa, North Liberty, for the upcoming Potato Creek Festival Arts & Crafts Contest. 1. The project must be handcrafted or created in the last year. (No kits accepted.) No adult or parental assistance for student entries. 2. Judges’ decision is final on authenticity. Amateur competition for adults, no professionals, please. 3. Any theme or media may be used. 4. Pictures are to be mounted on posterboard, construction paper or matt board. 5. Put name, address, phone, age, grade and school on back of entry. 6. Deadline for entries is Saturday, July 27, 1984. Bring to Community State Bank, North Liberty. 7. Entries will be returned to the respective school’s Art Department where they are to be picked up by the students. He weighed in at seven pounds and 11 ounces and was 22*/j inches long. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Tuttle, Walkerton, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mattocks, Walkerton. Great-grandparents are Amil Schultz, Walkerton, and Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Lambert, North Liberty. Dr. Kenneth and Cathy James, of Corona Del Mar, California, became the parents of twins Tuesday, June 26, whom they named Leslie Anne and Ryan Gregory. The maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Larry Smith, of Huntington Beach, Californian, formerly of Walkerton, and the parternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. R. G. James, of Hollywood, Florida. Maternal great-grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Oran Shuler, of Garden Grove, California, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Smith, of Huntington Beach, California, all former Walkerton residents. LINCOLN TWP. CLUB MEETS The Lincoln Township Homemakers Extension Club held their July 3 meeting at the Community Building at 1:30 p.m., with 19 members and two guests saluting the flag and repeating the club creed. Roll call was answered by one essential thing needed in a happy home. The song of the month. "Blue Skies" and "America The Beautiful" were sung with Lois Shcrland at the piano and Helen Pogodzinski leading the singing. The birthday song was sung to Martha Mull and Lois Shcrland. The treasurer’s report was read and approved as was the minutes of the previous meeting. Hazel Schultz gave the health and safety report on safety in the home. Martha Mull read a poem by Helen Steiner Rice entitled, "Everyone Needs Someone". The new club books were passed out and dues were paid. The meeting closed with the repeating of the club prayer. Hazel Arseneau and Pat Cowger were the hostesses for the day. Bingo was played with everyone winning a prize. The committee for the August 7 meeting which will be a carry-in dinner at 12:00 noon, along with a white elephant sale, will be Bertha Daube and Nedra Smith. SKILES WINS FEATURE AT NEW PARIS Leßoy Skiles ended Denny Nyari’s win streak Saturday night at New Paris Speedway in the 35 lap super late model feature. Skiles fought a race-long duel with Nyari, but won by half a car length at the finish line after side by side racing for the last two laps. Third through fifth went to Doug Hanna, Dave True and Erv Starrett. In fact, Nyari was shut out of the win-
ners circle all night with Hanna winning the dash and Fred Reed and Dave True winning heat races. Nyari was the fastest qualifier of the 94 cars with a 13:14 second clocking. In road runner action, Garry Wiles won the feature with Ken Geans and Frankie Short taking consi wins. Joe Smith won the dash and heat races were won by Leroy Roy, Tim Sullivan, Wiles and Brian Ross. In coyote action, Jim Ryman won the feature and Kevin Papa won the dash, while Scott Linville and Charlie Whitman split heat race wins. Racing returns to New Paris on Wednesday with a big road runner, street stock, coyote invitational with time trials at 6:30 and racing at 8:00 p.m. And Saturday the outlaw super late models, road runners and coyotes, plus the Elkhart County Vette Set will be on hand with practice at 3:00, time trails 6:30, and racing at 8:00 p.m. WHISPERING PINES GOLF NEWS The Ladies League play of the week was odd holes and Barbara Lenczowski won with a total of only 19. Joyce Lenczowski had low gross with 48. Betty Roesner had a32 for low net. Betty also had low putts of 15. The Men’s Friday Nite League low gross winner was Dennis Manuel with a 38. Jon Robinett had low net with- a 34. Closest to the flagstick on 15 was John Sult. The (team of Dennis Manuel, John Sult and Gregg Aldrich had even par for low team. R.E.A.L. Westhues the coffee set. Plans were made to donate SSOO to the Knights building fund during the July 21 ladies night at Warsaw. It was agreed to begin collecting "family favorite recipes" in October for the cookbook project. All funds will also go towards building a community building in Walkerton. All women in the community are invited to donate recipes. A bake sale was set for after each Mass on August 19 at the church. The next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. on August 13, at Jellystone Park with Marty Malstaff as hostess on their lot 355. All wives of Knights of Columbus are asked to attend whether a member of the Patricians or not. Swimming, miniature golf and croquet have been planned. ELECT OFFICERS Albert Brenner was elected president of the Koontz Lake Conservation Company at its annual meeting last week. Brenner succeeds Mrs. Kathryn Kramer who resigned the office after several years of leadership. Other officers include Russell Leekes, vice-presi-dent; Evenly Schmidt, secretary; and Mildred Cranmer, treasurer. Also serving on the Board of Directors are Louis Carli, Donald Dipert, Richard Dipert, Frank Kramer, Edward Kuklinski, Eileen Porter, Victor Schmidt and William Zerler, PRAIRIE FARMERS MEET The Johnson Township Prairie Farmers met on Monday, July 9, at the Community Building. Julie Bolze, president, conducted the meeting. Demonstrations were given by Tonya Buckmaster on goats and Jay Wright on how to make a clock. The group will have an outing at Indiana Beach on Wednesday, July 25. Brett Verkier led a newspaper hunt for recreation. The final meeting of the year will be held on July 23. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL JULY 23 - 27 The First Baptist Church, at Gark and Maine Streets, Walkerton, will conduct their annual Daily Vacation Bible School, July 23 through 27, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The theme for this year will be "God Is Able". There will be classes for ages four to teens. No fee is required, but a free will offering will be received daily.

WOMEN TOGETHER TO MEET Walkerton’s Christian Women Together will be meeting on Thursday, July 19, at the Community Building. Free refreshments will be served prior to the meeting from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. Special prayer will be at 9:30 with the meeting being officially at 9:45 a.m. There is also free babysitting provided. This month we are blessed with the musical ministry of Ken Grace and family. Ken has been in charge of the music ministry at the LaPorte Assembly of God. However he has now answered the call of traveling ministry across North America. Ken has a good Christian wife traveling with hime from their home in LaPorte County. They also have both a pre-teen son and daughter with them. Once again we will be looking forward to a great spiritual feeding at Women Together, on Thursday, July 19. See you all there. ATTEND FAMILY REUNION Mr. and Mrs. John Cowger and Wally Owen, of Wolcott, who was a weekend guest of the Cowgers, attended a family reunion on Sunday, July 1, at Centennial Park, Plymouth. Mrs. Lillian Gark, of Lafayette, was the oldest member present and Nicole Avery, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gyde Avery, Plymouth, was the youngest. Mr. and Mrs. James Cowger, Mrs. William Moore and Mr. and Mrs. Don Cowger and family, of Tampa, Florida, came the farthest distance.
