WALKERTON TOWN BOARD NEWS The Walkerton Town Board met in regular session on Monday. April 4. with members Jack Rizek. Raymond Keck. Gladys Prentis and Leo Savoie. Jr., present. The minutes of the March 21 meeting were approved as were claims numbers 294 through 331 approved for payment. Monthly reports were given by several departments for the month of March. Brad Schmehz gave the monthly report on the ambulance service which consisted of 22 ambulance runs. I bkxKl pressure clinic. I business meeting. 1 training meeting, I tornado watch with a total of 89% hours. Schmeltz asked that the board check on the moving of the heating unit to the ambulance bay since it had been approved but had not been done. Larry Dill gave the monthly report for the Fire Department. It consisted of 7 fires. I mutal aid with North Liberty. 1 tornado watch. 1 rescue. 2 false alarms with a total of 232% man hours. Dill also reported the bunker pants had arrived, the radios have all been checked and the smoke alarm checks are being organized now with the landlords. The Ambulance and Fire Departments have prepared telephone stickers thev hope to hand out to the public in the near future. The department is once again asking for copies of the insurance policies covering the department. It was moved, seconded and passed by the board to obtain and give to the department, copies of the insurance that affects their department. Jeff Zehncr reported on the progress of the sewer construction thus far. It was also mentioned that any additional charges on this project must come before the board. James Van Vactor presented the monthly report for the Police Department. He reported 62 traffic infractions. 16 parking infractions. 47 radar details, 57 traffic details. 2 traffic complaints. 10 accidents reported. 17 arrests and a total of 1,055 hours. A pursuit policy was presented to the board for study to be discussed at a later meeting. Marvin Williams, utilities superintendent. presented monthlv reports for the Electric. Water and Street departments. All work accomplished during the last month was itemized and a total of $ 7 6,682 was spent by the Electric Department; $7,899.59 by the Water Department; and $1,820.44 bv the street department. It was agreed upon that a notice would be published in the local paper concerning a Spring CleanUp to be held later in April Williams also reported that a better price had been found for purchase of utilitv poles at $98.00 a (continued on Page 4) BIRTH Mr. and Mrs. Daryl Eddinger, 103 Muskin Road, Walkerton, are the parents of a baby girl born on March 25. at the LaPorte Hospital. She weighed in at four pounds and 13% ounces and has been named Brooke Ellen. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Albert. North Liberty. and Mr and Mrs Harold Eddinger. Walkerton.
Number Os Stolen Vehicles Reported In Walkerton The Walkerton Police Department has been investigating a numberr of stolen vechicles and vehicles that have had the inside contents rifled. The Chief of Police is asking owners who have the habit of leaving their car keys somewhere inside the vehicle, please stop this habit. The stolen vehicles are recovered with the keys in the ignition and the car had been taken on a joy-ride. Some of the vehicles have sustained extensive damage before being recovered. NORTH LIBERTY KINDERGARTEN ROUND-UP SET Ihe Nortn Liberty School will have a kindergarten/Parent Orientation Program on April 12, at 7:00 p.m.. in the North Liberty cafeteria. It is very important that all parents of children who will be five (5) on or before August 31, attend. The schixil asks the children not attend this meeting. During the orientation night parents w ill; Complete registration forms and birth certificates checked; Sign up for a kindergarten screening time (screening will be April 20 by appointment only); Be given dental and health forms; Give a preference for morning or afternoon kindergarten sessions; Be given a kindergarten handbook; Be given an explanation of the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten programs and information concerning the screening on April 20. To be eligible for kindergarten, the child must be five (5) years old on or before August 31. A legal birth certificate is required (not a hospital certificate). The birth certificate may be obtained by contacting the Health Department in the county in which the child was born. Any questions concerning the Parent Orientation night on April 12 and the kindergarten screening on April 20 should be directed to the North Liberty school office at 656-8123 NOTICE "The Electric Sunshine Man' will be presented by the North Liberty Middle Schtxil music and drama departments, on Wednesday, April 13. at 7:00 p.m.. at the John Glenn High School Auditorium. OPEN HOUSE AT J.G.H.S. AND N.L. SCHOOL The John Glenn School Corporation will hold an Open House on Sunday. April 10. at the John Glenn High School and North Liberty Elementary/Middle School. A brief program will be conducted at each location followed by a tour of the building at the public's leisure. Open House w ill be from 1:30 p.m. t04:30 p.m. at the high school and from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Elememtarv/Middle School. The school board and administration encourages the public to attend and see the excellent facilities that the community has provided. KINDERGARTEN ROUND-UP AT J.G. APRIL 20 I here will be a meeting for parents and children eligible to enroll for kindergarten during the 1983-84 school year. This meeting will be held for parents of students enrolling in the Walkerton school district on April 20. Developmental screening will be done at this time necessitating dividing up into small groups according to the child's birthdate as follows: September 1- November 30 — 8:00 a.m. December 1- March 31 — 10:00 a.m. April 1- August 31 — 1:00 p.m. Health examination and immunization forms which parents should present to the physician at examination time will be distributed during the preregistration. These forms must be returned to the school before September 1. Proof of age with a legal birth certificate (one from the health department of the county in which the child was born) is required before the child can attend kindergarten. Children must be 5 on or before August 31 to enroll in Kindergarten. Students who will be 6on or before August 31 may also preregister on this date. PAPER DRIVE SATURDAY The Cub Scouts of Pack 193. SPRING DANCE The Oregon Township Senior Citizens are conducting a Spring Dance on Thursday. April 21. at 1:00 p.m. C.S.T.. at the Koontz Lake Club House. The regular meeting and pot luck luncheon will be omitted. All senior citizens in this area are invited to join us in dancing, fellowship and cake and coffee. No admission charge, a free will offering will be taken. TYNER ALUMNI TO MEET MAY 7 The Tyner Alumni Banquet will be held on Saturday. Celebrity Auction Saturday, April 16 At Koontz Lake A Celebrity Auction has been scheduled for Saturday. April 16. at the new church grounds, onefourth mile south of Koontz Lake on State Road 23. All proceeds will be used for the building fund of Saint Dominic Catholic Church. Over 45 well known celebrities have spent their personal gifts to be auctioned. Gifts have been received from Bob Hope. Wayne Newton. Loretta Swit. Danny Thomas, Carroll O’Connor, Betty Ford, Johnny Carson. Bowie Kuhn to name a few. Book Fair Heads North Liberty PTA Activities The North Liberty Parent Teacher Association sponsored Bwkfair. beginning April 7, in the North Liberty Elementary Middle School library, kicks off the North Liberty School April activities including a drug abuse talk on April 11 at 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the school library, and an Open House at the school on Sunday. April 10. At a March meeting in the North Liberty school cafeteria, those present voted to organize and join the National Parent Teacher Association. Interim officers for the North Liberty PTA are: Beth McCool and Mary Kay Stedman, co-presidents; Ann Camblin, teacher representative; Cheri Kryder. treasurer; Beverly Ton, secretary; Brent Kaufman and Juanita Manuel, advisors; Nancy Beghtel. middle-school room mother chairman; Donna Popovic, elementart-school room mother chairman; and Sue Dittmar. fundraising chairman. The North Liberty PTA's first organized activity is the Bookfair. The Bookfair, held in the school library, runs from Thursday, April 5, at 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., until Wednesday. April 13. The Bookfair will be open during the North Liberty Schixil Open House on Sunday. April 10, and after the Drug Abuse talk on April 11. All proceeds from the Bookfair will go toward new bixiks for the school library. For your convenience. b*H>k displays are arranged by age and reading level. The public is invited to browse and buy. Checks may be made payable to the North Liberty PI A. At 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. April 7, there will be a short meeting for all Bookfair volunteers. Fine Arts Festival In Walkerton Set For April 9 & 10 The Walkerton and North Liberty chapters of Tri Kappa will sponsor a Fine Arts Festival on April 9 and 10. The festival will be held at the John Glenn High Schixil. on Saturdav. April 9. from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. E.S.T. and on Sunday. April 10. from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. E.S.T. The purpose of the festival is to promote such art as dance, music, drama, art and crafts. The festival is open to participation for students within the John Glenn School Corporation and adults, both local and outside the school corporation limits. Entries should be brought to the high schixvl dining commons on Saturdav, April 9. from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 nixm. Miss Kris Kopanski. 3:35. Urey Junior High Choir KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION AT 0-D SET Oregon-Davis School plans Kindergarten Orientation Program for April 20th in the new elementary cafeteria. To be eligible for kindergarten, the child must be five years old on or before September 1. 1983. and six years of age on or before September Ist to enter first grade. A legal birth certificate is required for registration. The birth certificate may be obtained by contacting the Health Department in the county in which the child was born. Indiana law requires all elementary school children to be immunized against dipthena, whooping couch, tetanus, measles, rebella and poliomyelitis. Health forms will be handed out at the meeting for the parents to have completed by their family doctor and dentist. The morning registration will be held at 9:30 a m. Wednesday, April 20. The regular morning kindergarten class will not meet this day. The afternoon registration will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 20 The regular afternoon class will not meet this day.
