GLENN GIRLS NO MATCH FOR BREMEN LIONS □he' * a Ji isfc Ji 1 I ■TW 1 M^H >k( J ’ iaajSSSjig^^ wf’^ w ' —- ■ Wilfe . k —— • — .T^WW — * ,^g _ -a_ Janet Pontius, of Glenn, drives around Beth Eckert of Bremen in the final game of the Bi-County Tourney Saturdaynight which Glenn lost to Bremen by a score of 52-30.
The John Glenn girls basketball team, after making a strong showing in recent games and raising their record to 7 -8 in the process, ran into a far superior team Saturday night and that was the entire difference in the ball game as Bremen won a 52-30 victory over Glenn to capture their second straight B-County title. The win was Bremen's 12th in 15 games while Glenn is now ‘’-9 heading into the last week of the regular season before Sectional action. One consolation is that Bremen does not play in the same sectional as they travel to North Wimxl instead of LaVille for the state tournament start. The game was never close. Bremen's big center. Beth Eckert, got the game's first basket on a rebound lay-in which kind of set the tempo for the game She was the one dominent factor in the game and with a supporting cast of players to give a lot of balance, it was just a one-way street the entire game. The biggest hurdle for coach Barb Osowski's girls was getting shots against the hustling Bremen defense and while Bremen was rolling to a 12-3 first quarter lead and 25-9 halftime margin. Glenn was fighting hard toeven get a shot off. Rusti Dill scored Glenn's first basket with I:2b left in the first quarter when it was 10-1 with Alma Albertsen’s earlier tree throw the only point on the board Bremen, despite using the bench freely, just wasn't going to break at the hands of the Glenn girls who trailed 31-9 well into the third period before they finally managed three baskets in a row. It was for all purposes over by that time how ever, and the matter at hand was playing out the clock and setting the final score. Bremen's balance was more than obvious. Katie DeSantis had the
onlv double figure total in the game. 10 points on five baskets. Eckert and Chris Jones, outstanding seniors, each had nine while nine girls in all shared the Bremen points. Alma Albertsen had 7 to top Glenn w hile Michele Vicsik and Rusti Dill had six each. With the game tied at 8-8 and 20-20 after the first two periods, the LadyFalcons not onlv erupted for 15 and 22 points in the last two quarters, but held their opponents to a mere 4 in the third quarter to break it open and move on to the victory. The win was their 7th in 15 games while New Prairie slipped to 10-3 for the year. Julie Knowlton had a fine offensive night collected 20 points on six baskets and 8 of 13 from the free throw line. She had at least four points in every quarter in leading the offensive attack. Alma Albertsen had 12 points with all the starters getting at least five.
