OREGON-DAVIS DROPS LANCERS IN 81-COUNTY The Oregon-Davis Bobcats exploded for five fast baskets in the final 2:02 of the first half Thursday night to overcome a 16-15 La Ville lead and move ahead to stay in their opening round game of the BiCounty Tourney. With the Lancers successfully controlling the tempo of the game, forcing the Bobcats into some mistakes and bad shots trying to up the tempo, the fast five baskets allowed the game to open up a little more from this point on to make the difference. The win was number 11 in 12 games this season and was the seventh loss in nine games for La Ville. With Dennis Cooper leading the way both as a scorer and running the attack, the Cats fell behind 4-2 early, but came on to break a 6-b tie with six points in the final two minutes to take a 12-6 first quarter lead However, La Ville then controlled the tempo completely, and only one of two free throws by James Egger and a 9 foot lane shot by Dave Haloski was scored by O-D in almost six minutes of the second quarter Meanwhile the Lancers, with free throws the big part of their attack, we re nibbling away at the lead. A three point play on a lay-in by Dennis Foust, five of six free throws by Ken Carbiener and a baseline lay in by Mike Brumley pulled the Lancers to the 16-15 lead with 2:13 left in the half. However. Scott Budka pulled the Cats back in front with a rebound lay-in and then ( ooper fired in a 15 footer and followed with a solo

lay-in after a LaVille turnover. David Quick took a nice pass from Budka for a lay-in and Cooper’s fine pass to Rob Carmichael finished the half with another lay-in. The Lancers, although trailing 25-16 at the main intermission, did not break up their game plan and held the Bobcats scoreless for over four-and-a-half minutes in the third quarter while once again chipping away slowly at the lead. They scored eight points on three baskets and two free throws in this time to pull within one. before Mark Abel broke the dry spell with a lay-in. Cooper then drilled a 12 footer and Haloski hit the second of two free throws for a 30-24 lead. Brumley came back with a lay-in and then two free shots to cut the lead to two, only to have Cooper's medium length baseline shot four seconds before the buzzer, make it 32-28 with eight minutes left in the game. The Lancers made several more early runs at the Bobcats, pulling to within two points on one occasion, but as the pressure picked up on the Lancers, the tempo picked up in the game, much to the liking of the Bobcats. They pulled to a 36-28 lead in the first 25 seconds but Foust was to get a hot hand for LaVille and canned four straight baskets for the Lancers with Haloski and Budka picking up lay-ins inbetween for OD. When Tim McCartney hit two free throws with 4 42 remaining, it was 40-38, but Quick got a quick rebound lay-in and Jeff Pearish hit the second of two free throws for a 45-40 advantage. Cooper then for all practical purposes, pulled the Cats ahead by a safe margin as he first canned another 12 footer on which he was

fouled and converted the third point, then found nothing but net from 11 foot to make it 50-42. Another Foust basket trimmed the lead to six with 2:28 now remaining. but Haloski got a three-point play on a 4 foot baseline jumper and Pearish added two more charity tosses to open an 11 point spread. From here on out the Lancers got two baskets, but Carmichael added four straight free throws as the Cats were killing the ball when on offense making the fouls necessary in a hopeless cause.
