Falcons Win Sth Straight At Westville The John Glenn Falcons broke up a tight ball game in the late 1 minutes of the first quarter, jumped to a lead they increased to a 38-23 halftime lead, and then held on in the last half to win their eighth straight game of the 1982-83 season Saturday night. The game. 1 played at Westville against the Blackhawks, was the final tune-up for coach Gordon Mosson's Falcons before this week's Bi-County Tourney action in which they and Bre- I men rate as the two teams to beat. I The victory, although by a comfortable margin, did find the Fai- I cons having to hold on in the later ■ stages as the host Blackhawks I made a couple of runs at Glenn only to have the Falcons bounce back 1 each time to move to the 70-61 final ’ margin of victory. Westville's record dropped to 3-7 on the season with the loss. The first five minutes were nip and tuck as neither of the two teams could gain an early advantage. However, in the last couple of minutes of the first period, Mike Arnett, the Falcons leading scorer, led the charge that netted him five first quarter baskets and taking advantage of some Blackhawk turnovers late in the quarter. Glenn pulled to a comfortable 19-9 first quarter lead. Arnett continued right where he left off in the early second quarter, getting four more quick points before he was forced to leave the game early in the quarter with his third personal foul of the night. The hosts came out with a strong effort in the second half, paced by a hard-working defense, that kept them in the game. Outscoring the Falcons 19-16 in this quarter, they didn’t really cut that much into the lead, but did stay in the contest. The Falcons managed to stay in front. 54-42. heading into the final frame. Westville made their real move early in the quarter. With big 6'5", 250 pound Jeff Lietzan leading the way. the Blackhawks picked up the first six points of the period with Lietzan getting two baskets and assisting on a third. The Hawks then had three opportunities to get the margin down to six as the Falcons just couldn't get anything going right at this time, but the hosts failed on each occasion. Rick Hardesty finally broke the Falcon dry spell with a 16 footer to raise the margin back to double digits. Dan Curry then trimmed the lead to eight again, and after a technical foul was whistled on Falcon coach Mossyn for disputing an offensive foul call too much for the refs liking, Curry hit the second of two free throws to cut the margin to seven, the closest the Hawks had been since earlv in the first half, as just 4:24 remained to be played in the game. However. Arnett and Steve Dreessen took charge offensively once again as Arnett canned two medium range jumpers and Dreessen added six quick points to pull the Falcons safely ahead again. They battled it out pretty evenly in the last few minutes as Glenn moved to the
