Order Copies Os Past Years’ Tax Returns Early Taxpayers who do not have copies of their previous years’ tax re turns and need to request them from the Internal Revenue Service should order the copies as soon as possible in order to receive them timely. taxpayers can expect a six-week wait to receive a copy of their tax forms. Some of the reasons whv taxpavers max need to request copies of previous years" returns are for income averageing, student loans, and mortgage purposes. Taxpavers needing previous years’ tax returns should prepare a Form 4506.
