Fairfield has since dropped out of the Northern State Conference but is a very fine football team that can carry their weight in any small school conference. The loss was Glenn's fourth in six games while Fairfield raised their season record to 5-1 with the victory. They missed the extra point, but with 8:18 still to be played in the opening quarter, it was 6-0 Fairfield. After Glenn took the next kickoff, they were unable to sustain a drive and Jeff Fansler punted to the Fairfield team. Tony Smoker bobbled the kick but when he picked it up. he was able to get free from the first wall of rushers and finally broke into the open to race 70 yards for the score. This lightning quick score made it 12-0 as a pass failed on a two point conversion try. Half the first quarter still remained to be played. The third touchdown was another big play by the Elkhart County team as they gained possession after Glenn gained two first downs only to have a Mark Cain pass picked off by Steve Vail. After an incomplete pass of their own, quarterback John Kirkdorffer bootlegged the ball around the right side after faking left and found open space and raced 50 yards for the score. This came with still 2:45 left in the opening stanze and it looked like they might blow Glenn clear off the field. It was 18-0 after one period. Fairfield scored once again in the first half but only after Glenn showed the ability to move the ball. However, another punt return, this one a big 88 yarder, put the next points on the board in the second quarter and after they finally converted a kick by Donny Young, held a 25-0 lead. The Falcons dominated the rest of the

hall, but another pass interception stopped one drive and another stalled at the Fairfield 19. Ihe third period found Glenn scoring first as it was to coach John Hostraw ser’s credit that the Falcons didn’t quit despite being behind b\ 25. A pass from Ron Clemons to Jeff Fansler after a lateral to Clemons from Cain, picked up 53 yards and the score about hallway through the quarter. This possession was set up by a Todd Cummins recovery of a Fairfield fumble as both teams turned the ball over often in this game. Fairfield battled back on their second sustained drive of the night after the Glenn score and moved 64 yards in 12 plays, again all on the ground. Another Young kick made it 32-7, but much more action was still to come in the wide open game. Glenn gave away the next touchdown after the kickoff and a penalty kept them deep in their own territory. A missed snap from center found Fairfield’s Scott Fox, a big lineman, picking up the loose ball and rambled 18 yards into the end zone. Glenn scored in the final period as another big pass play, this time from Fansler to Cain out of punt formation, covered 65 yards for the score. Cummins kicked the extra point and it was 38-13, the way it should have ended. The last score was the surprise of the game. With time running out. 7 seconds showing to be exact. Fairfield had a fourth and inches and decided to kill the clock instead of punting. A speedy Bryan Cripe made it around the end and outran everyone for 85 yards and the score that came well after the final second had ticked off the clock. Despite losing by the big margin. Glenn did move the ball for over 300 yards, but also gave it away eight times, five on pass interceptions and three times on fumbles. all either on handoffs or a snap from center. This Friday the Glenn team will play New Prairie, a good team year in and year out in the Northern State Conference. They have a 2-1 record with wins over Culver and Triton and a loss to LaVille. while Glenn is 2-2 with wins over the same two teams and losses to LaVille and Jimtown in conference play.
