Glenn High School; Gerry Brown, to become varsity assistant football coach at John Glenn High School; and Tim Davis, to become head middle school football coach. Several appointments were made as follows: Pat Mackowiak, was appointed physical education and health teacher at Urey Middle School and also assistant football coach for the middle school; and Brad Schmeltz was appointed as maintenance man for the John Glenn School Corporation, with all members accepting with Mrs. Schmeltz abstaining. Gasoline and fuel oil bids were received and after study it was unanimously to award the gasoline bid to Rensberger Oil Compahy, of South Bend; and to award the fuel oil bid to Fair Oil Company of North Liberty. The supplemental student insurance program was again unanimously accepted by the board to continue as has been for the 1982-83 school year. The budget was discussed for approval for advertising. A motion was made by Mrs. Schmeltz, second by Mr. Stull, to accept the 1983 budget and tax rates as follows: General Fund, $3.3942; Debt Service Fund, $2.0118; Transportation Fund, $.3778; and Cumulative Building Fund, $.lO. The advertised total school tax rate, payable in 1983 would be $5.8838. Five members voted in favor of the motion with Mr. Anderson and Mr. Wolff opposing the approval. The board unanimously agreed on the following school lunch prices for the coming school year: for Grades 1 through 5. 60 cents; for Grades 6 through 12. 65 cents; and for adults. sl.lO daily. Two conference requests were unanimously accepted by the board with Rodger Smith, high school principal, to attend a computer workshop at Ancilla College for six evenings in August; and for Richard Kickbush, athletic director. to attend an athletic director’s
workshop at Indianapolis on August 4. A contract was accepted unanimously by the board to have the firm of F. T. Forsey & Company to wash and varnish 35 doors at the North Liberty Elementary/Middle School at a price of $1,304.00. The board also unanimously agreed to award the Slatile Masonary Restoration Company to seal all glass block joints at the Urey Middle School. The charge for this will be $4,490.00. A motion was made, seconded and unanimously carried by the board to install a 42” fence on both sides of the football field between the track and the playing area and also to install a top rail on the existing fence around the baseball field. The total cost of this will be $5,580.00.

A list for loose equipment for the kitchen for the John Glenn High School was recommended by principal Rodger Smith. The Indiana Restaurant Equipment Company, of Warsaw, Indiana, was awarded this at a cost of $5,520.00. This money will come from the construction fund and was accepted unanimously. In other business, Jim Rumler, Rich Sepkowski and Dave Foster gave an update on the construction progress on the two building projects and they discussed some change orders. Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 11:00 p.m. The next regular meeting will be Tuesday, August 3, at 8:15 p.m. in the music room of the Walkerton Elementarv School.
