Mrs. Patty Kennedy, a spokesrson for the John Glenn Educa•n Association, questioned the ard why they refused to fund the lary schedule as proposed by the acher negotiating team. The ard delayed the response until Jr. Peddycord’s arrival as he is a presentative on the negotiation am. In response to the question ter, the board stated they felt the gotiaion process is still continug, and since those monetary matrs have not been resolved by both des. a public discussion at this me would not be appropriate. In new business, several matters M-re brought up for discussion id action. The superintendent, larold R. Muncie, discussed the lancial situation with the board iid the statement ending the ()th of June found the appropriaion balances normal for this time f the year. The superintendent informed the >ard that through a Title Grant, ihe Corporation will receive $1,639 for video tape lessons on the consonant letters for kindergarten students. A matter of radios for the school uses was brought up and board : resident Jack Ryan appointed f >ard members Dean Anderson nd John Wolff, along with bus driver Paul Anderson, to receive prices for radios to communicate <mong bus drivers. The superintendent reported to he board that there is approxinately $1,600 outstanding unpaid ook rental monies from the 1981‘2 school year. The board advised ie superintendent to contact the hool attorney to start the process f collecting the book rental fees irough small claims court. A list of bus drivers for the >rporation for this year was sum'itted and a motion was made, cond and carried unanimously to pprove the list of drivers for the >B2-83 school year as submitted y the superintendent. A schedule of book rental chargs was presented to the board and fter study it was voted unaninously by the board to accept the harges as presented. These fees ppear in a separate story in this dition of "The IndependentNews”. Several appointments were made or the coming school year by the oard. They are: Jim Verkier, ustodian at John Glenn High School; Darlene Crane. Sherrill Kickbush. Steven Binion and Jon f’airitz. as bus drivers. The board s still taking applications at the ‘dministration office for the mason’s position at the Walkerton Elementary School. Working hours for this position are 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. five days a week. Several position assignments (continued on page 16)

“FROG HOLLOW’’ AND BLUEGRASS RETURN TO POTATO CREEK FESTIVAL THIS YEAR

On Saturday, August 14, at 3:00 p.m., “Frog Hollow" will make another of their very popular appearances at the North Liberty "Potato Creek Festival’’. The group will be presented in concert on the Community State Bank parking lot and it is free to the public. The members are Ralph Stewart on fiddle, Darwin Scutchfield on bass, Dan Nelson on banjo, and Tom Campbell on guitar. Nelson, Scutchfield and Campbell are three original Frog Hollow musicians when they first appeared at the Potato Creek Festival. Festival committee members remind the public that all the concert appearances are open to the public without charge and all take place on the bank parking lot. Other concerts taking place are the John Glenn High School Band at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. August 13, Bill Gaut, popular recording artist, at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, and "Little Roger's Dixieland Giants" at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. In addition to "Frog Hollow on Saturday, the "Royal Majesties" Baton and Drum Corps will perform at 12:00 noon. “Pay Dirt", country music band will be on at 6:00 p.m. and Dave Futa and the "Family Affair" will play polka music at 9:00 p.m. FISH FRY AUGUST 13 The Beaver Creek Wesleyan Church will sponsor a fish fry to be held on August 13. serving from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., in conjunction with the Potato Creek Festival. The supper will be held at the North Liberty Fire Station. Price of the supper is $3.50 for adults; children 6-12 at $2.50 and children under 6, free. The fish will be fried by the Tippecanoe Volunteer Fire Department. Come eat supper with us at the Potato Creek Festival. SCHOOL BOARD TO MEET IN EXECUTIVE SESSION The John Glenn School Board will hold an executive session at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 3. prior to the regular board meeting at 8:15 p.m., for the purpose of interviewing prospective employ-

“SPUD RUN’’ ENTRIES DUE BY AUGUST 9 The annual Spud Run, in conjunction with the Potato Creek Festival. North Liberty, will be held on August 14 with entry deadline set for August 9 at 6:00 per entry and after this date a fee of $7.00 will be charged. Look elsewhere in this issue for the entry blank to be filled out and returned to the Potato Creek Sports Arena, P. O. Box 668, North Liberty. Awards will be given in the onemile Fun Run for the first overall winner. The Fun Run will begin at 10:30 a.m. For the 6.2 mile run. which will begin at 9:00 a.m., awards will be given to the first place winner in each of the age groups. Categories are as follows: Female — 12 and under; 13-18; 19-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49, and 50 and over. The male categories are: 12 and under; 13-18; 19-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39, 40-44; 45-49; 50-59; and 60 and over. The first 300 entries for the 6.2 mile run will receive a T-shirt for entering. SENIOR FELLOWSHIP PICNIC The Senior Fellowship Club will meet on Monday, August 2, at 12 o'clock for their regular meeting and program. Weather permitting. this picnic luncheon and meeting will be held at Stanley's Marina. on the south side of Koontz Lake. Those attending should be at the Community Building by 11:30 a.m. To assist with comfortable seating it is suggested that those who have lawn chairs take them along as the Marina has only tables and attached benches. Four Walkerton Residents Suspects In Burglary As the result of a joint investigation by the Walkerton Police Department and the Starke Count) Sheriff's Office, four suspects were arrested on July 23rd in connection with the early morning burglary of the Roadview Inn, Hamlet, on July 16th. Arrested were Virgil D. Kurtz. 23; David K. Armentrout. 20. and tw o juveniles age 16. all of Walkerton. A fifth individual is also being sought in connection with the break-in. All four individuals were incarcerated in the Starke County Jail pending the filing of formal charges by the Starke County Prosecutor's Office and Juvenile Authorities. GLENN HIGH VOLLEYBALL TRY-OUTS SET An orientation meeting and tryout session for girls volleyball at John Glenn High School will be held on Monday .
