Cystic fibrosis is an incurable disease which effects the lungs and digestive system and ranks as the number one genetic killer of child ren. It is estimated at any one given time. 600 Hoosier children and young adults suffer with CF Plus, some 270.000 Indiana rest dents who, unknowlingly, could bi carriers of the CF gene. Carriers who marry run the chance of having one out of four children with CF. There are five CF centers in Indiana which are located at: Riley Hospital, I. U. Medical Center Indianapolis; Children’s Pavilion Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis Deaconess Hospital, Evansville St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend; and Lutheran Hospital, Fori Wayne. The major complications an caused by a glue-like mucus which is secreted in the lungs and diges tive system. In the lungs, this ab normal mucus creates breathing difficulties and an ideal environ ment for infections which can damage the lungs. In the diges tive system, the thick mucus also blocks the flow of enzymes vital to digesting food. To combat these complications CF patients take enzyme substi tutes daily with meals and require daily physical therapy treatments Physical therapy treatments can vary from once to three times daily x- z \ A Cortaid [ZT AU YOU NEED FOR MINOR ITCHES AND RASHES.
