ARTS & CRAFTS SHOW HERE JULY 3 - 4 The annual Arts and Crafts Exhibitiion has been scheduled for the weekend of July 3 and 4, in Walkerton. This year the contest is being held in conjunction with the Fourth of July Celebration. Admission is free and this event has proven to be one of the most rewarding and culturally enriching experiences of the year. An organization meeting was held on April 27 with the following being elected to serve this year's exhibition. Diane South and Diane Schmeltz, co-chairmen; Helen Savoie, publicity; Kitty Holland and Mary Ann Arnett, work schedules; Wanda Norris, typing and printing; Paula Patterson, fine arts; Debbie Northam. Sue Shields and Linda Awald. committee members; and Pam Edison, consultant. In the amateur category. $2.00 for the first entry and SI.OO for each other entry; and in the student division (grades 9-12), SI.OO for the first entry and SI.OO for each other entry. In conjunction with all the art exhibits, craft booths will be available with a variety of goods for sale. Booth space will be available on a first come, first served basis and a fee of SIO.OO per booth space must accompany your entry application. This year's exhibition is the largest yet. Prize money will total in excess of $600.00. This event should be as in the past a great opportunity for all to enjoy an enriching cultural experience and display their talents. A crowd of over 8,000 people attended our Fourth of July Celebration last year and we expect an even larger crowd this year. So come one, come all to the Tri Kappa Arts and Crafts Exhibition. Tim Hanson Receives National Honors mp Jim ISL <. j Tim Hanson, son of Vern and Shirley Hanson. Walkerton, recently was named to the 1982 United States Achievement Academy for his national award in speech and drama. This prestigious honor was bestowed on Hanson, a senior at John Glenn High School, that very few students can ever hope to attain. He was nominated for this national award by Robert Mulligan, English teacher at the school. Tim's name will appear in the United States Achievement Academy official yearbook. The criteria for selection are a student’s academic performance, interest and apptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm. motiviation to learn and improve, citizenship, attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability and recommendation from a teacher or director. Tim has also received a Tri Kappa Theatre Scholarship from Indiana University. South Bend. HOLD FARM BUREAU DINNER A chicken dinner was served to members of the Johnson Township Farm Bureau last Tuesday evening. at the Community Building. Mrs. Elburt Place gave the table prayer. John Cord, chairman, presided a the business session. Mrs. Harold Knowlton, women's leader, gave the devotions. The next District meeting will be on July 8, at the Oregon-Davis School. A memorial was given for Helen Mitchell by Esther Kaufman. Mrs. Leroy Johnson read a poem, a tribute to mothers. There will not be a June meeting. The annual picnic will be held on July 11 at the home of Alma Daube. The committee will be John Cord, Martha Mull and Mrs. Daube. Potted plants were given as a Mother's Day tribute. Attendance awards were received by Clyde Snodgrass. Cord and Jason Dipcrt. Hosts for the evening were Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Vanderheof. BETTER HOMES CLUB MEETS Ihe Better Homes Extension Club met at the home of Mrs. Helen Freeman. Sharon Lowry was a guest. President, Mrs. Evelyn Eddinger, opened the meeting with the club creed. The song of the month, “You Light Up My Life”, was enjoyed. Roll Call was answered with my mother's first name. The minutes were read by secretary, Mrs. Alda Ray. The treasurer's report was given by Norma Eddinger. A report on International Day was given by Mrs. Gerri Ruby. It was a very interesting program and the club is looking forward to next year's program. The annual picnic will be held on Monday. June 28. at Pine Creek Church Park, at 6 o'clock. The installation of the officers for the next two years was held with Mrs. Eva Stickley being president; Mrs. Alda Ray, vice-president; Mrs. Gerri Ruby, secretary; and Mrs. Mary Hahn, treasurer.
