Senior citizens in the Koontz Lake area gather every day Monday through Friday to enjoy a hot meal and some form of activity at the Koontz Lake Conservation (Tub. The Starke County Council on Aging operated a nutrition site at the Conservation Gub, geared for persons aged 60 and over and their spouses. If one spouse is eligible for program participation, both spouses are eligible. The meal provides one-third of the daily nu'ntional requirements and the daily activities provide social contact and enjoyment which will ensure a good positive mental attitude. The site opens at 10:00 am., the meal is served at 11:30 a.m. and activities follows until 2:00 p.m. (All times are slow time). A donation of 75 cents is appreciated which helps defray part of the cost of the program. If you or your friends are interested in attending, and are over the age of 60, please call the nutrition site manager, Gaire Klecka, from 10:00 a.m. to 200 p.m. at 586-2376. Thirty meals are served daily; reservations are made in advance to insure each participant a meal will be available. ARA Services of South Bend prepares the catered meals. Aging, Inc. also provides transportation for persons over the age of 60 to doctor, shopping, etc.; meals on wheels to persons in the Knpx, Hamlet, North Judson and San Pierre areas: nutrition program at Knox; call-a-day program to persons who live alone and would like to be checked on daily; information and referral; weatherization for low income families; choreworker and handyman for senior citizens; and the office staff will take applications for persons needing help in completing Project SAFE applications. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Frazier arc spending the cold winter months in McAllen, Texas. Mr. Fraizer took their trailer down in October and came back in December to pick up Barb. Their daughter, Ramona, is a sophomore at John Glenn High School and she is staying with the Bob Loucks family. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Baughman, of North Liberty, were supper guests of their neighbors, John and Virginia Markle, on Saturday evening. A chili supper was enjoyed on a blizzard night. Last Sunday afternoon, Mrs. Nellie Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Leland Zumbaugh and daughter were visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Warner Gark. Mr. and Mrs. Kenny Chapman and family and Mrs. Bess Ferverda were guests for dinner of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Chapman on Sunday evening. Due to the terrible weather on Saturday the Koontz Lake Conservation Gub dinner was cancelled. This Saturday evening hosts will be Mr. and Mrs. Philip Waldron, Sr., and Mrs. Bess Ferverda, if weather permits. Israel as five of our sisters share their recent trip to the Holy Land. Bev Strang.
