Christmas Customs of Far Away, Long Ago
Every nation has its share of delightful Christinas customs, and although today fnany of those traditions are no longer strictly observed, some of these quaint customs are still remembered. In Czechoslovakia, for instance, the Christmas season signaled the time to end quarrels, so that the new year could begin in a spirit of love and friendship. Thus, there was a great deal of visiting back and forth as everyone sought to patch up any misunderstandings. Caroling was also a popular custom in Czechoslovakia and as the carolers went about singing, they carried miniature Nativity scenes with them. GLAZED HOLIDAY HAM 3 4 cup Aunt Jemima Syrup I /4 teaspoon nutmeg I tablespoon prepared One 4 to 5-lb fully horseradish cooked boneless ham ( ombine syrup, horseradish and nutmeg in heavy saucepan Bring to a boil; simmer 5 minutes, stirring occasionally Set aside Bake ham as package directs. Score ham about 30 minutes before meat is done; baste with glaze. Continue cooking 15 minutes, baste with glaze. Garnish with cherries, pineapple rings and whole cloves, as desired
