Falcons Run Away From N.P. 75-66 The John Glenn Falcons used their size, more balanced attack and a lot of free throws to advantage Friday night to beat a hustling New Prairie team 75-b6 in their first Northern State Conference game of the season. The w in, number two overall for Glenn against one loss, still was not as gixxl a showing as the coaching staff and fans want to see and expect out of this team, but with a big rebounding advantage, some wide open running and 17 out of 25 free throw shooting they were able to pull away from New Prairie, but couldn’t really deliver the killer punch. The game, one that caused some pre-game worry for the Falcons as it appears the Cougars are slowly snapping out of a severe several vear slump, opened on a w ide open note. Mike Sherbun hit the first basket of the game working under from the baseline for a basket.

Mike Arnett, a very fine pure shixiter who hadn't taken many shots in Glenn's first two games, hit from over the zone from the corner to knot it. Jamie Kring came back with a tip-in and Jeff Tinkcy then scored a rebound basket for Glenn to knot it at 4 each as the game's first four shots were baskets in a very short time. This was the pattern as the two teams battled back and fourth with a New Prairie basket just before the buzzer giving the hosts a 16-14 lead after one. Glenn's more open attack started to gain some advantage in the second stanza. The long pass and fast break, possible due to a size advantage. hurt the Cougars on several occasions. With this. Glenn t<x>k the lead in this quarter and l<x>kcd to be starting to pull to a somewhat safe lead before a desperation shot at the halftime buzzer by Dave Smith from half the length of the court made it 35-32 Glenn at the main intermission. The Falcons came out with the first three points of the second half and then the two teams traded four for three, the Cougars advantage.

before John Harness got a personal hot streak and hit 10 straight points to pull the Falcons to an eventual lb point margin, the largest of the game shortly after the one-man show. However, once again, as the week before, the killer instinct just wasn't there and instead of the Falcons icing it away, the Cougars started fighting back and kept the game within reasonable distance trailing by nine. 55-46 after three. However, it was just a matter of too much Falcons and not enough time for the Cougars as Glenn, playing without the intensity coach Waller is seeking for an entire game, held on to win by that same margin as a free scoring last period found each team netting 20 points to make the final 75-66. The Falcons were led by Harness as he totaled 22 on five baskets and 12 out of 15 from the charity stripe. I he Falcon guards, Arnett and Phil Groves, totaled 16 and 12 points respectively. giving the Falcons some much needed shooting over the zone to keep the New Prairie defense from stopping any one phase of the game. For the losers. Jon Woolsey ended high with 19 points picking up the slack that their guards. Smith and Craig Arndt, usually supply pointwise. Kring ended with 12 and Arndt reached double figures with 10. Glenn had a big rebounding advantage in this game despite the fact they were outshot from the floor 30 to 29 by the Cougars. The 17 of 25 was far more superior than New Prairie's vers cool 6 of 15 freebies.
