duccd rates are applicable only for hearing or speech impaired persons who have been certified in writing by a licensed physician, audiologist, or appropriate state or federal agency. This certification process professionally identifies individual customers having a hearing or speech impariment which precludes oral communications, or those who must use a telecommunications device for visual communications. The telephone rate reduction applies to interstate di-rect-dialed station-to-station calls without operator assistance and is applicable only to a qualify ing person’s residence. To quality for the special rate, written certification of hearing or speech impairment must be presented to the local United Telephone Company Phone Shop which serves the customer’s residence. Certification forms will be available upon request from United Phone Shops after October 30. 1981. "United is pleased." Shutz said, "to join w ith other telephone companies nationwide in reducing the cost burden that would otherwise have to be borne by citizens using slower teletype* Titers to communicate." R.E.A.L.
