Ms Tennison Installed As Worthy Matron Ms Donna Tennison was installed as Worthy Matron of Walkerton Order Os Eastern Star Chapter No. 319. The public installation was held Saturday evening. March 21. in the Walkerton Masonic Temple. Mrs. Vivian Hillis. Past Matron of Parksville Chapter, in Chicago, and Past Grand Adah of Illinois Grand Chapter. Order of Eastern Star, presented the Holy Bible on the altar. Mrs. Vivian Button. Worthy Matron. of Walkerton, welcomed the guests and relatives Mrs. Button introduced the Installing Matron. Mrs. Judith Hillman. Mrs. Hillman then introduced the other installing officers that would be assisting her for the evening. Mrs. James Verkler, Installing Patron; Mrs. Sally Candler. Marshal; Mrs. Becky Reed. Chaplain; Mrs. Florence Erickson. Secretary ; and Mrs. Sharon Klinedinst. organist and soloist. The 1980-81 officers retired to prepare for the installation. During the interlude, Mrs. Klinesinst played several organ selections. Ms Tennison. Worthy Matron elect, was escorted to the altar where she received her obligation. The soloist sang “You'll Never Walk Alone". She was escorted to the East by her son Curt, she was introduced and given grand honors. She was presented with the gavel that her great-grandmother. Martha Koch, used when she waj>Worthy Matron of Columbia Chapter. in Chicago, in 1916. Her grandmother. Mrs. Frances Koch, also used the same gavel when she served as Worthy Matron of Columbia Chapter in 1940. and her mother. Mrs. Betty Wolfenberger, used the same gavel as she served the Walkerton Chapter in 1966-67. Dona now makes the fourth generation to serve the Order of Eastern Star as a Worthy Matron. Mr. Donald Wolfenberger. Dona's father and Worthy Patron elect, was escorted to the altar where he received his obligation from James Verkler. Past Patron of the Walkerton Chapter. The soloist sang. "Here We Go Again", he will serve as Worthy Patron for the fourth time for the Walkerton Chapter. He was escorted to the East by his grandson. Curt Tennison. introduced and given grand honors. Other officers installed were: Associate Matron. Betty King; Associate Patron. Donald King; secretary. Irene Whitteberry; treasurer. Bette Wolfenberger; Conductress. Shirley Awald; Associate Conductress. Barbara Cummins; Chaplain, Lowell Cummins; Marshal, Dan Awald; Adah, Pamela Malstaff; Esther. Marv Bauer; Warder. Theresa DeVos; Sentinel, Gene Whitteberry. To be installed at the first meeting in April will be organist. Verice Walz; Ruth. Florence Erickson; Martha, Becky Reed; and Electa. Lucinda Northam. Ms Tennison assumed her office as Worthy Matron. She thanked everyone for being present and also thanked her installing officers for doing a very good job of installing her officers. She gave a short resume of her heritage to serve as Worthy Matron for a fourth generation. She explained her motto, “You Will Never Walk Alone"; her watchwords. Faith. Hope and Charity; colors, purple and lilac; her flowers are violets and daisies; and the emblem in the Crown and Scepter. Dona's aim for 1981-82 is to build and promote a bigger and better Eastern Star. During remarks. Mrs. Irene Whitteberry. Past Matron of Walkerton Chapter, presented a Past Matron pin to Mrs. Vivian Button. Junior Past Matron, of Walkerton. Mrs. Button presented Dona with
the traveling Worthy Matron’s pin. Mr. Jasper Elkin. Past Patron of Walkerton Chapter, presented the Past Patron’s pin to Harold Button. Junior Past Patron of the Walkerton Chapter. Mrs. Button presented Mr. Wolfenberger with the traveling Worthy Patron pin. Vivian and Harold were escorted to the altar to sign the memory page in the Holy Bible. The soloist sang. "I Shall Not Pass This Way Again". Everyone repeated the Mizpah benediction. The newly installed officers had their retiring march. The Holy Bible was retired from the Chapter room for the Chaplain. Everyone retired to the social nx>m for refreshments of cake, sandwiches, mints, coffee and punch, served by Neva Klinedinst. Anna Rose Heim and Iris Jones. The serving table was covered with a lavendar cloth, centered with a silver candelabra and purple candles that were encircled with white daisies and violets. The cake was in the shape of the Holy Bible. The other tables were centered with a glass candle holder and a purple candle, purple ribbon and daisies completed the decorations. The decorating committee members were Judith Hillman. Bette Wolfenberger and Linda Benjamin. The Guest Book was attended by Retta Williams and the programs were presented to the guests as they arrived by Russell and Jean Lawrence. The gift table was decorated with Dona's color scheme and the backboard of the gift table was covered with lilac paper and on this was pictures of Past Matrons and Past Patrons and of Dona’s great grandmother, grandmother and her mother. Guests were present from New Carlisle. Koontz Lake and Walkerton. Tbe first meeting of the Chapter’s new officerss will be April 7 at 8:00 p.m. at the Walkerton Masonic Temple. J.G. Track Team Members And Events Listed The John Glenn High School track team for 1981 is made up of mainly freshmen and sophomores with the following returning lettermen: Brian Parker, senior; Jeff Fansler, Kelly Cordell. Mike Hamman. John Newland and Fred Krick, all sophomores. Brian Parker is our only senior returning letterman. He is returning conference champ and John Glenn's record holder in the discus, he threw 147’9*/j" in the conference meet. Brian also helps a great deal in our sprints. Jeff Fansler is the current record holder in the 3200 meter run and has been working very hard in preseason practice and will probably be our number one man in the 1600 and 3200 meters. Kelly Cordell will be returning as a valuable asset in the discus and low hurdles. Mike Hamman is returning as our number one man in the 400 meters and through his hard work in pre-season practice should prove to be a conference contender. John Newland will be returning as our number one man in the pole vault and Fred Krick will be our number one man in the high hurdles. We also have several freshmen and upperclassmen who are com ing out for the first time and will definitely be an asset to the team. Roster Mike Aitken, sophomore, high jump.
