The Beaver Creek Wcslevan Church. North Liberty, held Ap predation Week. February lb 22. for their pastor. Rev. Frank Levi. During the week Rev. and Mrs Levi and family were insited into different homes for the evening meal. Sunday morning a “This Is Your Life" service was held for the pastor. Letters of their ap preciation for Pastor Levi were read by different individuals of the church. We were favored by a duct and two harmonica specials. Guests attending the service were family members including his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Levi, of Converse. Indiana: TRI KAPPA NEWS Twenty-eight members were present at the March Sth meeting of the Epsilon Chi chapter of Tri Kappa. Walkerton. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Barbara Rohrer Mrs. Lori Jacobs, chapter presi dent, conducted the business meeting. The chapter will sponsor a bake sale on Saturday. March 14. at the Farmers State Bank. Walk erton. The bake sale will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will end when all items have been sold. All pro ceeds will go to the Walkerton Public Library. After the service a carrv-in dinner was enjoyed by all. We closed the das of fun and fellowship with a sacred concert by the “Sounds Os Joy", from Walkerton. will be hold this art project for the Walkerton Elementary School students. The art appreciation exhibit will be open for public showing and participation ribbons will be given to all students who enter their projects. The event will he held at the Walkerton Elemen tars School. Mrs. Rohrer gase a short puppet show pertaining to mental health. Mrs. Rohrer wrote the script explaining some of the causes and places where to seek help for men tai stress. Bob Gerber. Walkerton, showed slides of his trip to China. SERVICE NEWS ARMY AIR FORCE HOMEIOWN NEWS — Air Force Airman Cortney L. Ray. son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence W. Ray. of Route 1. North Liberty, has participated in Global Shield 81. the Strategic Air Command’s (SAC) response to a simulated attack on the United States. The service member is among the more than 1(X).(XX) U. S. Air Force. Navy. Marine Corps and ( anadian personnel taking part in SA( s largest, no-notice 20-dav training exercise. During one portion of Global Shield more than 500 B-52 and FB 111 bombers and KC-135 tankers took off from 7 0 different locations in the United States and Guam within minutes of notification. This exercise is not related in any way to real world situations, according to a SAC spokesman. Global Shield 81 is designed to test the command’s capability to carry out emergency war orders to support U. S. policy if deterrance fails. This exercise has been constructed to measure SAC’s response to a set of preplanned events leading up to a simulated attack on the United States, the spokesman explained. As part of Global Shield, some SAC aircraft deploy to civilian and military airfields selected specifically for the exercise. Additionally. B-52s and FB-Ills fly low-level training routes approved by the Federal Aviation Administration. The routes were preselected to help measure the simulated bombing, navigation and electronic countermeasure skills of SAC aircrews. ARMY z AIR FORCE HOMETOWN NEWS — Army Private Jerry D. Stromyer. son of Mr. anil Mrs. Jerry C. Stromyer. of Rural Route 3, Walkerton, was presented the Air Assault Badge upon graduation from the Air Assault School at Fort Campbell. Ky. Trainees learned to rapidly and safelv exit a helicopter from a variety of difficult situations. Whether descending into tree tops or lowering themselves or injured soldiers down sheer drops, the graduates are highly proficient. Stromyer is assigned at Fort Campbell. Ky. MARC H 2 (FHTNC) — Marine Pfc. Edward B Bogard, son of Ida M Roberson, of Route 4, Box 378, Walkerton, Ind., has completed recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. San Diego. During the 11-week training cycle, he learned the basics of battlefield survival. He was introduced to the typical daily routine that he will experience during his enlistment and studied the personal ami professional standards traditionally exhibited by Marines. He participated in an active physical conditioning program and gained proficiency in a variety of military skills, including first aid, rifle marksmanship and close order drill. Teamwork and self-disci-pline were emphasized throughout the training cycle. A 1980 graduate of John Glenn High School, he joined the Marine Corps in December 1979 under the delaved entry program. It costs more to buy the av erage car today than it cost Christopher Columbus to equip and undertake three voyages to and from the New World. Congratulations arc in order to six members of the North Liberty High School Band. These members were chosen by their band directors to audition for the SBCSC Honors Band. All six were chosen for the band which is made up of 10-12 graders in the Sooth Bend School system. The premier concert for the Honors Band was on February 8 at Washington High School, The next performance is scheduled on March 12 at 8 o’clock in the IUSB auditorium. It will be under the direction of guest conductor Dr. Robert Foster, from Kansas University. Their last concert will be on April 21 at 7:30 in the Clay Gym as part of the Band Spectacular in voicing all South Bend School Bands. Special thanks are due to the directors of the Honor Band; Mr. Gerald Oilman and Mr. Kenneth Geoffroy, who have given up many Sundays to rehearse this select group of students.
