Girls Sectional In Action Now Thru Saturday Action begins on Wednesday evening tn the girls 1981 basketball sectional tournev .is the John (ilenn team, the defending champions, get into action in the first game Thev plav I aVille at ” (X) p.m. in the only game of the evening in the five team meet. On Thursday. a very good New Prairie team will meet Plymouth in the first contest, this set to begin at 6:30 p in. The second game will pit North I ibertv against the win ncr of the Wednesday night game between (ilenn and I aVille. The finals and the right to advance to the rcgionals the next week will be played on Saturday night at "30 p.m All the games arc played in the I aVille gym. (iirls basketball has come a long was in the few years it has been a competitive part of the schools' athletic programs. This will be the sixth state tourney and more and more balance and interest is being noticed year to year with more interest as the game itself progresses. Three Walkerton Postal Employees Guests Os Honor On January 21. 39 friends gath cred at the .1 X J Restaurant, Walkerton, for the retirement din ncr honoring three Postal Service employees, louis “Oug" Houser. Stanley Bet/ and Mrs John (Pat) Cow ger. Mr. Houser retired on December 2’’. 1980. after 21 years of service, much of this time as a regular rural mail earner Mr Betz retired on January 17. 1961, after 31 years of service, one year as sub city carrier and Id years as a regular rural earner. Mrs. Cow ger will retire on February 20. with II years as a city earner. These three retirees have a total of 63 years of dedicated service to the Walkerton community . After dinner Mr. Betz acted as master of ceremonies for the evening He introduced our hx al Post master. Mr. Horace Fields and his wife. Phyllis. Also introduced were Sectional Center Manager Postmaster. Mr. John lawecki and his wife. Micki. who were special guests. Mr. Fields presented Service C ertificates to the three retirees. A social hour was enjoyed sharing many past experiences at the Post Office and gag gifts were presented to add to the festivities. Mr. Robert Awald had made several award plaques which were presented in his behalf since he was unable to attend Charles Cripe. Jr., who has been retired for 10 years, was recognized for having served the Postal Service for 50 years. Poems written by Harriett Klinedinst and Shirley Klincdinst were read by Pauline Klopfenstein along with a poem entitled. “Grow mg Old". Monetary gifts were presented to each of the retirees in appreciation of their service. Other guests included Mrs Betz. Mrs. Houser. Mr. Cow ger. Mr and Mrs. Richard Flaugher, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Zchner, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Gillies. Mr. and Mrs. ferry Knowlton, Mr. and Mrs. Don Wolfenbargcr. Mr, and Mrs. Charles Cripe. School Board News I he Polk I incoln-.lohnson School Board met Tuesday. January 2". as they undertake weekly meetings for a while to plan for the various phases of the liberty Township merger, the board heard a report from a representative of the Band Boosters pertaining to the 1981-82 school year. I his concerned the future of the band program. Sup enntendent Harold R Muncie as sured that the high school band program will be a part of the school curriculum, taught during the reg ular sihool hours, and a comen trated effort will be made to com bine the ninth grade band students with the 10th, llth and 12th grade band on a daily basis. Also, a band program for the sixth, seventh and eighth grades will be continued. Ihe board spent considerable time in reviewing the previously planned Urev Middle School renovation with the new members and some revisions were agreed upon. The board will conduct a public meeting on the Urev renovation in the near future. An achievement certificate was granted to Earl Ream. Approval for Brvce Biglev. science teacher at Urev to attend the Hoosier Association of Science Teachers Workshop at Indianapolis on February 13 w'as granted Approval was also given for the Wellness Support ( enter (Memorial Hospital.
