Glenn B-Team Wins Opener In Tourney I he John Glenn B Team used a strong second half to beat the host New Prairie Cougars in the opening round of the B-Team Bi-Counh Tournes Monday night 4b 44. Ihe win put the Falcons in the second round of the St. Joseph Counts division against North libcrtv. a first night winner over La Ville in a squeaker also. The Falcons of Gordon Mosson rode a strong second hall offensive effort of Todd Anderson to turn a 21 14 halftime deficit into the exciting two point victory. Anderson hit all 19 of his points in this half with nine coming in the third quarter and 10 in the deciding final stanza. He had the hot hand in the second half after Wade Boise and Jim Dreessen scored all but two of the Falcons first half points. New Prairie jumped to a 13-4 lead in the first quarter and managed to hang on to the lead 21 14 by the main intermission. Both Boise and Dreessen had six first half points with Mike Aitken chipping in two free throws. Using a verv big first and third quarters, the host team managed to hang on in the last period for the win, advancing to the second round and putting the two time winners of the meet. John <ilenn, on the side lines. Ihe game was hotly contested from the word go. New Prairie had dropped the Glenn girls last vear also m the first round, but just a few weeks back, in the final game before the holidav break, the I adv falcons handed the New Prairie team a loss that was instrumental in cinching a tic for the Northern State Conference title. However, the lady Cougars had the final say in their meetings this season with the upset win Mondax night. Not onlv was the action fast and furious, but also rough enough as fouls were whistled freclv through out th< entire game In fact, (ilenn was in the one and one in the first period against the hosts, but some good floor shooting, paced bx four baskets bx Denise Spear and three bx Gene Neff paced the 22 14 adxantage the hosts built up. Using a strong man tn man pressure dele rise in the first half, coach Gordon Mosson’s crew blew to earlv leads and the Shamrocks were really never in the game. A 9 2 first quarter lead was almost duplicated in the second stanza as it was I”4 at halftime. The North I ibertx zone defense was causing the Falcons some problems also, but the fact that the Shamrocks couldn’t score against the Glenn zone xx as decisive. Ihe falcons moved to a 38-12 third quarter lead and the game was turned oxer to the bench as it was a matter of finishing out the time in a wide open fourth quarter In all 10 boys split the Falcons points with Mike Aitken and Jodd Anderson each getting eight to head the list North I ibertx was led bx Spencer Wilcox’s seven. In the first round thex defeated Pioneer in another thriller 49 4". Ihe (ilenn girls made a strong fourth quarter comeback tn the opener to get into the finals. I rail mg Pioneer bx a score of 41 34 going into the final quarter, a big rallv plus some strong defense made the difference with Patti Far rar paving the last quarter drive with nine points as thev outscored the Pioneet team 15 b to claim the title Farrar ended the game with 14 and lammx Tuttle 12 to lead the 1 adx Falcons. Pioneer had good balance with ( hris Bwklcx’s I 3 heading their scoring.
