Glenn Topples Shamrocks 52-40 Friday Ihv John Glenn Falcons broke away from the host North Liberty Shamnxks in the third quarter Fridas night in their annual has ketball meeting to win a 52 40 de vision. This was a Northern State Conference game and kept the Falcons unbeaten in conference play with a 3 0 record and boosted their overall record to 5-4. North I ibertv slipped to 2 h for the year and 2 2 in conference play. I his game had its moments, but overall. it was not a typical (ilenn North I ibertv exciting bailgame. The Shamrocks were playing with out their leading scorer and playmaker. Dan Stevens, who is hob bling around on crutches with a hip injury suffered in the recent South Bend Holiday Lournev Ihe game started on a rather slow paced scoring note. Ihe play wasn't real sharp as both teams had recent layoffs, but the Sham rocks main trouble was getting what shots they were getting to go in despite taking some close in attempts. Glenn on the other hand was turning the ball over more and not getting all that many shots as two baskets in short order after almost a minute and a half passed, the First by Jeff Donathen and the second a 21 footer by Mike Arnett made it 2-2. w hich it stayed for over three minutes. Pat Franklin scor ed next on a tip in and less than three minutes were left in the ini tial stanza when Mike Elkin hit a lay in to knot the score at 4 At this point the scoring started to pick up. Mark Jacobson hit a short side shot for Glenn's first lead and then Joe Harness got a lay in. However. Rick Stcfaniak came back with first two free throws and then a rebound shot to knot the score at eight and then he followed this up with a medium baseline jumper with :2l on the clock to make it 10-8 Shamrocks as the first quarter ended The last two and a half minutes of the first quarter and the second period was the best basketball of the night Doug Miller wasted little time in tying the score at 10 with a seven footer, but Donathen hit six straight points, a short baseline shot, two free throws and a lay in to cap off a nice drive to open •i six point margin. Jeff Tinkey came back for Glenn with first a short turn around side shot and Elkin then hit a pair of chants tosses Tinkey drove hard, coming close to a tray el. but fired up a lay-in that resulted in a threepoint play when he was fouled and hit the third point Stcfaniak changed the lead again with two free throws, but Jacobson matched this for (ilenn Marty Manuel gave the Shamnxks back the lead with a medium baseline shot and then took a fine pass from Dave Kaser for a lay-in to make it 22 19 Shamrocks. Jacobson hit a 13 footer for Glenn and Harness pushed the falcons to the lead again with a lay-in.
