Mr. Fid Klopfenstein was in Painsville, Ohio, from Friday to Monday attending a Pearl Harbor Program given at Hellrigels Restaurant, The owner of this restaurant was on board the ship named I S S. Enterprise. CV-b, and each year he sponsors this program as a tribute to the men who lost their lives. The main speaker for this year's party was Vlmiral Tom Hamilton, of California. Many friendships were made during these years and relived each year as the group comes together. Word was received Saturday of the death of Mr. William Bowers, in California. Mr. Bowers was well known in Walkerton and North Libertv. He had been in ill health for a couple of years. The Bierly family Christmas dinner party was enjoyed Sunday at the Oriental Restaurant in South Bend, with Mr. and Mrs. Russell Bierly, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Bierly. Mr. and Mrs. Amos Bierly, Mrs. Doris Malstaff of Union Mills, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Smith. Miss Ethel Bierly. the home of Mr and Mrs. Sidney Smith Mr and Mrs. Smith served homemade ice cream and cake to the group. A btrthdav party was given last Wednesday evening with a pot luck dinner at the Hochstetler-Stuntz Pine Forest, honoring the birthday of Mr Fritz Skinner. It was given b\ Mrs Skinner but there were many guests with birthdays so near that they were also honored with cards and good wishes. 3hose being honored were Mrs. Elsie Elder. Mrs. Nedra Williams. Mr. Hay ward Stunt/. Mrs. Ervin Stunt/ and Claude Shencman. Thirty-one people were present and one d<x>r prizes was given of which Mrs. Sam Frame was the lucky winner. The evening was spent visiting. Mr and Mrs. Roman Brehm will be hosts for the Conservation Club's Saturday evening dinner meeting at the Koontz Lake club house. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wolfe and daughter. Christy Marie, of Frankfort. Illinois, were Sunday guests of Mrs. Glen Walz. There were also other guests from Walkerton present. Dr. and Mrs. Robert Fenstermacher and family are enjoying their house guests, a niece and nephew, from Guatamala, for several days. Last Wednesdav eight ladies
from the United Methodist Church went to Hamilton Grove Retirement Home near New Carlisle, for he Christmas party given by Hamilton Grove Helpers. It was a dinner party and favors were given each person and a singing group from one of the South Bend school gave the very nice program. The birthday club, of which Miss Ethel Bierly is a member, held their meeting Monday with a dinner at the local .1 Ai J Restaurant. A bingo game furnished the entertainment for the afternoon. Rose Webb was the hostess. Mrs. Mart Mellin will be leaving Thursday to spend the Christmas and New Years holiday s in Arcadia. California, with her son Bob. and family. Rev. and Mrs. Robert C. Bowman returned recently from a 12 dav Thanksgiving to visit two of their children in the northwest. They visited with their daughter. Roberta, husband and son. in Parker. Colorado; their son. Ron, wife and two daughters, in Seattle Washington, where he is a facility engineer for Lockheed Shipbuilding Corp. He had moved this summer from Spokane to his new setting. The suburbs of Seattle are hilly. It was rainy and the temperature was in the high 40's. Roses and other flowers were in bloom and they also picked a few blackberries. Mrs. Clyde Chapman was a week end guest of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Wilson, in Lognasport. Other guests were Lt. Com. and Mrs.
Richard Tipps, of Virginia Beach. Virginia; Mr. and Mrs. James Sharp, daughter Fave and son Pat. of Logansport; and Mrs. Helen Dillman. Chase Manor. Logansport. After an early Christmas dinner a gift exchange was held and pictures were taken of the group. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Smith and son and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Tener. of Fish Lake, were Sunday afternoon visitors of Mrs. Nellie Smith. Miss Hh/abcth Fenstermacher played a heavy role in the performance December 6th when "The Nutcracker" was presented at the Morris Civic Auditorium. Walkerton was well represented in that presentation as Katie Jacob. Connie Menges and Laura Hershberger placed the part of mice. This was a wonderful experience for all the girls. Bernard B. Williams attended the Kansas City Chief's football game in Kansas City Sundav. He also visited other points of interest whilc there. Bob Mellin Retires After Some 30 Years Bob Mellin, son of Ethel Mellin and the late Martin Mellin, Walkerton. has retired from Braun & Co., of Alhambra. California after some 30 years. Bob was born in Walkerton in 1919 and graduated from Walkerton High School in 1936. He then went to Purdue University. W’cst Lafayette, where he graduated in 1941. He then was coni missioned as a Captain in the Manne Corps, which he served for 11 years. He then joined the staff at Braun in 1950 and settled in California.

Bob is the brother to Mrs. Paul (Ins) Jones. Walkerton, and David Mellin. Plymouth. Bob retired in August from his position as vice-president of construction. He had joined the construction division staff of three field projects and became the company's first staff superintendent. He then worked in estimating, scheduling, project services and project engineering. Bob moved to Murray Hill in 1962 and became the first head of project engineering there, and assistant division head. He returned to Alhambra five years later in project management. In 1972 he was named manager of the construction division and was elected a vice-president the following year. He has flown over 100.000 miles a year to the company's jobsites throughout the world during his career. Bob doesn’t plan to retire all at once. He will spend some time each week helping his successor get settled in. He will also be at the Anheuser-Bush brewery jobsite several hours a week to continue as the company 's management sponsor for the project until it is completed. He'll keep up with his jogging four miles a day, put a new coat of paint on his Arcadia home, do some gardening and he may take up golf again CHRISTMAS BAKE SALE AND BAZAAR DECEMBER 13 The annual PI J Band Boosters Christmas Bake Sale and Bazaar will be held on Saturday.
