BUY YOUR LICENSE PLATES THROUGH THE MAIL There is no need to stand in line to buy your 1981 license plates. Once again, the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles is offering the alternative of purchasing license plates by mail. Approximately 4,100,000 preprinted registration forms arc currently being mailed to Indiana citizens. Bv using this form and the following procedure. Hoosiers can obtain their license plates through the mail: I. Verify the information on the registration form. If the name or address is incorrect, make the correction on the registration form in the space provided. 2. Be certain registration is for the vehicle you currently own. Individuals who have traded cars during the past year may receive a pre print for both the vehicle that has been sold and the new vehicle. If this should happen, please discard only the obsolete form and follow the normal pnxedure. (A trip to the license branch is only necessary when the vehicle description found on the pre printed registration form does not match vour current vehicle.) 3. Make out a check or purchase either a cashier s check or a money order payable to the "Bureau of Motor Vehicles" for the exact amount indicated bv the arrow on the pre printed form. Sending a cashier's check or money order will allow faster processing of your application Never send cash! 4 Sign the pre-print on the far left hand side, place all copies of the form and the check, cashier's check or money order in the envelope. Be sure that the license branch address is visible through the envelope window. All license plates must be purchased in your county of residence. 5. Place a first-class stamp on the envelope and include the return address on the space provided. All pre printed registrations must be mailed on. or before the fifth day of the expiration month to assure delivers before your 1980 license plate expires Please allow at least three (3) weeks to receive your 1981 license plate. If your pre printed registration form is not received in the mail by January 17, 1981, please contact the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Registration Department. 317 2322795. One major change the motorist will notice upon receipt of his 1981 license plates is that the plates will also have a war expiration sticker applied to the lower righthand corner of the plate.
