VOICE OF THE PEOPLE (continued from page 4) I am not trying to tell anyone to vote for .John Hdcr or .John Brademas. lam not trying to tell anyone anything about voting but I would like to comment on some new s that appeared in a daily paper and on television last week through the president of the Walkerton Chamber of Commerce. It is amazing how quick they can forget. If recollection serves me right Walkerton just recently finished the HUD program on “the other side of tow n" that upgraded that neighborhood tremendously and certainly was an asset and improvement for those people and the town. I think also I recall reading where the sewer grant had been given and that the Town Board is finishing plans now for this project. It seems to be true that this is not the only federal money that comes into towns and that the Town Board is also seeking more funds to improve the West York area. If the Walkerton Chamber of Commerce Board has the right to back Hiler why then doesn’t the other South Bend Mishawaka Area Chamber have the right to back Brademas. Also it should be mayor Parent’s privilege as much as any other individual’s to back who he likes and to look after his own. Is this the real feelings of the

Works and V otes In Walkerton Io the People of the Ihird Dis trict: It is now getting very close to election day, but it is still not as close as the race for the I hird District s Congressional seat. So vour vote is even more important this vear. It has been a long campaign. The issues and the difference between my opponent and I have been spelled out clearly. It is up to you the people to now decide — more of the same or time for a change. I he right to vote is one of the most important Constitutional guarantees. It sometimes seems hke it is the only choice we have got left I urge you to make that choice on fuesday. November 4th. No matter what remember to vote. Remind your friends to vote. Vote John Hiler for a change. Sincerely. John Hiler Republican Candidate for Congress MAIL FRAUD IS A BIG BUSINESS Because the U. S. Postal Service touches all of our daily lives, you might think people would realize that swindlers use the mails to part us from our hard-earned dollars. Unfortunately, nothing could be more falsely assumed. Con men have been using the mails for years to rip off millions of consumers. The Postal Inspection Service calls it mail fraud. This happens when someone sets up a scheme to defraud by misrepresenting the true facts and uses the mails to promote the scheme. According to Stephen D. Lokken. a Postal Inspector in Detroit, Michigan, the American consumer was cheated out of 489 million dollars last year through different mail fraud schemes which range from fraudulant land sales to charity rackets and especially now, energy related fraud and home improvement swindles. It would be hard to tell how many people have purchased land in Arizona. donated to a phony charity, or bought a gas saving device believing that all were on the up and up. only to discover the promotions
were fraudulent. Just recently, a man was sentenced to several years in prison for advertising apartments for rent for S4OO per week in lake Placid. New York during the Winter Olympics. Hr required full payment in advance. but unfortunately for inU ri sled sports tans who sent their money in advance, he had no apartments. Or you may have heard of the leltronics, Inc. watches by mail scheme in ( hicago several years ago. Watches were advertised for Sib.9s with orders being promised before Christmas. The promoter collected 1.7 million dollars and tried to leave the country. He was convicted and sentenced to prison. If you believe you have been victimized bv a mail fraud scheme, contact vour local Postmaster who will forward the information to the Postal Inspection service. Whether it’s chains, work at home schemes, or someone trying to sell the Brooklyn Bridge. Postal Inspectors arc hard at work investigating fraud.
