the had the football. A drive of 5b vards ti»ok nine plays before Brian Williamson ran it in from six yards out Sc >tt Jones kicked the first of fixe good kicks and the Cougars held a quick 7 -0 lead. Ihe second touchdown was a short two plax drive of II yards as the Cougars’ defense set this one up. After receiving the kickoff after the first touchdown, the Shamrocks were unable to sustain anxthing and went into punt formation. Ihe punter was hit and the ball tumbled free, being covered by the Cougars swarming defense on the I I xard line. It took Jack Davis two plays to run it in. the first for nine xards and then the final two. Again Jones kicked the extra point and it was 14-0 still in the first quarter. From here on out. it was almost all New Prairie. They not only dominated the Shamnxks with their defense and their offense managed to move the ball well enough to score almost at will, they prevented the host Shamrocks to penetrate into Cougar territory in the first half. In the second quarter, touchdowns were scored by Davis on a27 yard run; Mike Gondeck. 27 yards with an intercepted pass; and Steve Davidson. 13 yards with a blocked punt. This boosted the Cougars lead to 34-0 at the main intermission. New Prairie scored once in both of the last periods and the Shamnxks finally got on the board in the final quarter, the first time they were able to pass the 50 with the ball. A Mike Coppens to Duane Wunder pass was good for 46 yards and the score in the final period. A true kick by Kevin Phelps completed the Shamrock scoring for the night in a game they truly were outclassed on that given night. It has been a hard season for North Liberty with not too many boys reporting at the start of the season and then injuries further depleting their ranks. Mark Whitaker at middle guard. Wade Boise and Holdeman at defensive ends in front of linebackers South, Morris and lohn Newland, were stopping the run They were blitzing hard and after a three xard loss on first down. Bradley did hit Scott Reinholt for 18 xards and a first down. He then arched a long bomb that the d<ep backs just didn't plax that deep, to a quick moving ( raig Wininger for 41 xards and a touch dow n Ihi x failed on a two point trx and it was 14 6. the Falcons oxer Knox. I hmgs still weren’t about to slow down. Ihe kickoff again sailed well out of the end zone and on the first down. Elkin tried his delaved

keeper again, broke to his left and found a lot of day light. It was then a footrace and the tall quarterback managed to hang on for 80 yards and scored the Falcons third touchdown of the game. 1 his made it 20-6. which it remained as a kick was no good, but the four touchdowns had been scored in less that 10 minutes of action as 2:16 remained on the clock. Bx this time. Knox had to realize thex were playing the Glenn team this week and not kxiking to North Judson next Friday. However, the Fakons now had confidence and almost cockiness going for them and it made the difference. After Glenn's third short kick. Bradley hit Reinholt again for 19 yards and on second down, was going for another long one when Tinkey stepped in front of the receiver and picked it off 1 his. with his 11 yard return, gave the Falcons fine field position with a first and 10 at the Knox 43 and after three rushing plaxs got a first down, the quarter ended and the Falcons also had the wind at their back. They moved the 5” xards in 6 plays with a big 37 xard pass from Elkin to Harness being the big play in the drive. Morris plowed over from a yard out for the score and South kicked the point after and it was Glenn 27. a shtxked Knox 6 with most of the second quarter left. Ihe game then settled down a little. Knox got a big first down on a face mask penalty and Bradley let one fix towards the end zone that Harness made a diving interception of at the 5 yard line. Unable to get a first down. Tinkey's punt with the wind traveled 59 yards and the Falcons were out of trouble again. Nothing of consequence happened until late in the half when a sack of Bradley forced a punt and Glenn took over at their own 28 with just 1:38 left. It looked like they would settle for that lead at halftime, but a little trickery put a big gainer on their side moving them well into Knox territory. Elkin hit Harness with a pass about 10 yards over the line of scrimmage and a quick lateral to a trailing South found the overall play picking up 49 yards before South was hauled down from behind. Then a 14 yard pass to Holdeman coming out of the backfield got the ball to the five, but after an incomplete pass. South tried a field goal with just seconds remaining, which failed from 22 yards out. Knox had time for one play and the half w as over. Everyone had to wonder if Knox could come back in the second half. With a strong passer in Bradley and g<xxl receivers, they could eat up yardage in big chunks, but something else cnetered into the game shortly after the second half started. Rain. Even though it didn't rain the rest of the wax. it did rain hard at times and with (he strong wind the conditions were not the greatest for throwing the ball. A couple of penalties, a sack of Bradley and finally a booming 54 yard kick with funny bounces gave Glenn the ball in the rain with 74 xards between them and the goal line. The game plan now was to trx and control the ball and with the rain falling hard at times, they did just that, plowing basically straight ahead behind the hard charging line. I hree rushing first downs got them into Knox territory and as the rain eased up. Elkin hit Harness with a high floater that found Harness just simplx taking (he ball away from the defender tor a first down at the one xard line. It took two cracks, hut Morns plowed over and even though a pass failed, it was now 33 6 with 2:41 left in the third quarter. Knox wasn't about to plax dead vet They started a drive alter a longer kick, and excntuallx moved in lor the score after the quartet changed their direction when Brad lev hit ilia! speedy end. Wininger again, this time with a crucial fourth down pass that was good for

58 vards. They also picked up two points on a Bradley to Reinholt pass but time and the weather was on Glenn’s side in the 33-14 ball game. There was several changes of possession as the Falcons kept using the clock all they could, but Knox got on the board one more time- with 3:43 left in the game when another Bradley to Wininger aerial was good for 25 yards and a score. I hen came a big extra point attempt. With the score 33-20. Knox could get within II points with a two point conversion and thex did haxe the wind at their back. However, on the snap, a oxer anxious Bradley looked to pull away from the center a little quick, a fumble resulted killing the trx when thex recoxcred the ball on the ground. Knox had one final trx after Glenn turned the ball over on downs, but Elkin intercepted a Bradley pass, giving all three of the deep men one for the night, to let them run out the clock. This was truly a big win for Glenn, one that might lead to bigger and better things in the future Coach Hostrawscr still has a relatively small squad to work with, but with only three seniors, all very important parts of this team however, the future has to look brighter. A season ending game with an always representative Culver Military Academy team Fridax night will wind it up for this year, but the sweet memories of the Knox upset will live a long time.
