? i/t a’® rM A. KIMBERLY LYNN SOUTHWELL The Walkerton Area Junior Miss competition will begin on Thursday evening. Oetober 30. and the finals will be held on Saturday. November I at the John Glenn High School auditorium with 12 girls vicing for the crown. This week we will feature the 12 girls. Contestant number one is Miss Joycelyn Kay Varga. She is five foot eight inches tall. Her parents are Robert and Pauline Varga, of Walkerton. Joyce is a senior at Oregon-Davis High School where she has been vers active as a cheerleader. a member of the National Honor Society. FHA. vollevball, gymnastics, drama club and is listed among "Who’s Who Among High School Students". In her spare time Joyce enjoys working

After high school Miss Varga plans to attend Fort Wayne Bible College and major in elementary education. For her creative and performing arts competition she will be playing a piano solo. Contestant number two is Miss Kimberly l.ynn Southwell. Her parents are Mr and Mrs. Nick Southwell, of Grovertown. Kim is I" vears old and has blonde hair, blue eves and is five foot four inches tall. She is a senior at OregonDavis High Schpol. She has been a class officer, homecoming queen candiate. Sweetheart candidate and Prom Princess. She was a member of the choir, gymnastics. Pom-Pons co-captain. pep club. Letter of Feminae and Sunshine. In her spare time Kimberly enjoys dancing, hooking rugs, reading, horseback riding, twirling the baton. watching "Dallas", listening to Donna Summers or just plain talking She hopes to Attend An cilia College and puruse a career as a secretary. Kim will be doing a dance routine for the talent competition Contestant number three is Miss Melinda Sue Soulia. who prefers to be called I inda. She is the 17 year old. light brown hair, blue eyed, five fixg two inches tall daughter of Robert and Patricia libbers, of Grovertown. She is a senior at Oregon-Davis where she has been in the drama club, on the Writers Workshop and Yearbook staff. Linda enjoys writing songs, reading, singing, playing baseball, listening to Paul Williams and watching Billie Jean King and "Family" on television. Miss Soulia has chosen Manchester College to further her education after high school. She would like to become a chef and manager. Contestant number four is Miss Roberta Ellen Laudcrback. the 17 years old daughter of Richard and Betty Laudcrback. of Walkerton. She is a senior at John Glenn High School, has brown hair, green eyes and is five foot nine inches tall. Rohm, as she prefers to be called, has been a member of the student council, pep club, choir. Sunshine Society and a homecoming queen candidate. Robin enjoys horseback riding, swimming, playing baseball. fixitball. volleyball, track, dancing, singing and showing draft horses in 4-H Robin’s favorite TV personalities include Donna Summers. Bruce Jenner and watching "Three’s Company”. Miss Lauderback will be dancing during the talent portion of the pageant. Her future plans include entering Ivy Lech and becoming a lab technician. Contestant number five is Miss Karin tynn Hawk. She is the I 7 year old daughter of Donald and Mary Hawk, of Walkerton. She has brown hair, green eyes and is five hxit three inches tall and is a senior at John Glenn High School. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Sunshine Society, pep club, drama club, art dub and a cheerleader. She enjoys watching "I me Boat" or listening to the "Cars and Supertramp”. Miss Hawk s hobbies include gymnastics. swimming, horseback riding, softball, tennis, drawing and painting. After high school she would like to be a computer programmer. For her talent presentation she will be performing a mime act. Contestant number six is Miss Candy Adkins, the daughter of Herman and Grace Adkins, of Walkerton. She is a senior at John Glenn High School and has light brown hair, blue eves and is five foot five inches tall. At John Glenn. Candy has been a manager of the track and gymnastics teams, a member of the swing choir, pep club, choir. Junior Achievement and the Sunshine Society. In her spare time you may find Candy listening to Kenny Rogers, watching "Three’s Company” on television. dancing or working as a Girl Scout. Miss Adkins says she also enjoys making new friends in other states. She would like to puruse a career in nursing or being a beauti-

Her parents arc Robert and Juanita Malkowski. of North Liberty. She has brown hair, brown eyes and is five foot four inches tall. She has been a class officer, cheerleader, a member of the student council, drama club, pep club, volley ball, softball, track. Pom Pons and 4H. In her spare time she likes to watch "Quincy", listen to Kenny Rogers, sew . draw . play the piano and organ, ride horses, water ski. jog. ride a bicycle, and pencil drawings. She recently had two of her pencil drawings win the Golden Kes Award from the Junior Scholastic Achievement Art Show, one of which received the Hallmark Award Both drawings went to New York for National Finals, onereceived a gold medal and the other an honorable mention. Karen is planning to attend Purdue Univer sity to become a pharmacist. She will be performing a piano solo for the talent competition.
