Falcons Edge South Central 7-6 Friday I’he John Glenn Falcons won their second game of the season Friday night despite not being quite at peak form. The meeting between the Falcons and South Central pitted two teams with identical 1-6 records and the game turned out to be as close as the records indicated it might be as the Falcons came home with a 7-6 victors. They are now 2-6 with Knox and Culver Military Academy to play in the final two weeks. A good Jeff Tinkey punt rolled dead at the South Central 12 yard line but the Satellites went right to work and took the ball 93 yards in all (thanks to a five yard penally) in 11 plays to put six points on the board. The entire march was on the eround as thev picked up key runs of 14. 12. 14 and 29 before Frank Lumm ran the final 15 yards. They tried for two points on a pass, which failed, but the hosts looked good and Glenn rather flat in this first offensive series for the Satellites to lead 6-0 after just about nine minutes had passed. Next came an exchange of punts by the two clubs and then an exchange of pass interceptions with Dan South getting the ball back for Glenn well into South Central territory He returned the interception six yards to the SC 20 where it was first and ten. It looked dark for the Falcons when two running plavs and an incomplete pass netted only 2 yards but on a key fourth and 8. Tinkey was clearly hit early running his pass pattern and the pass interference call gave the Falcons a first and goal at the 9. On the first play it appeared that South barreled over, only to have the ball spotted at the one. I hen

on a quarterback sneak that found Mike Elkin penetrating well over the line and being thrown back, the ball was spotted about three inches from the white stripe. On this play. Elkin was shaken up and John Flaugher replaced him at quarterback. took the snap well and handed to South who this time fell well into the end zone to remove all doubts. South then kicked the extra point and it was 7-6 with an even four minutes left in the first half. There was no less than four possessions in this final four minutes as two punts and a lost fumble found the ball changing hands rapidly although no one threatened the other’s goal line. After homecoming ceremonies for South Central, the Satellites again looked like they were ready to dominate play. They took the second half kickoff, returned it to their own 41 and started a drive from there. In all they went 13 plays plus one big Falcon pass interference penalty, only to turn the ball over on downs at the JG 10 yard line. The Falcons were unable to sustain much, getting one first dow n and punting on their seventh snap of the ball in the second half. This punt also got a Glenn bounce and rolled dead at the SC 28. where one more big drive was started. After a couple of first downs, the Falcons looked to have the Satellites in trouble with a couple of losses, but a face mask penalty moved them 15 yards forward to sustain the drive. Then again the attach stalled and this time it was a pass interference call which gave the LaPorte County team new life with a first down at the 13. However. despite bending quite a bit. the Falcon defense didn’t break and with the help of a SC holding penalty, finally took over possession at the Satellites' 37 vard line. They had run 16 more plays in this drive plus the penalties to have the clock wind down to less than six minutes left in the game. South and Elkin then took over the running of the ball and running down of the clock, getting five first downs all on the ground and moving the ball to a first and goal at the 6 with :J9 showing on the clock. Coach John Hostrawscr ordered them to fall on the ball and three such plays ran out the time as the hosts used up their timeouts, insuring the 7 -6 victory, not that well played, but certainly welcome. South ended with 101 yards on 17
carries. The Falcons, usually a team that gains yards by passing, never even threw a pass in the second half and had only 2 of 8 for the game.
