Ihe first quarter found neither team able to generate much offense. However, as the time ran out and the second quarter started. North Liberty had the ball in a drive they started on their own 44 yard line. Thev then pul together a sus tained drive w ith two key runs, one a 24 yard keeper plav by Mike Coppens and a 15 vard run by Pete Olivarez. The drive ended with Bruce Veclotch pounding it over from a yard out and Kevin Phelps kicked the extra point and the Shamrocks had drawn first blood now well in the second quarter. ( ulvcr then put together their first drive of the night. They started a 5b vard drive after the kickoff and with a 24 vard run by Rocky Bachman being the big plav. they moved down field only to stall a little inside the 10 vard line. However, quarterback Dave Taiclet Hipped a nice pass to Mike Elliott in the end zone and the Cavaliers had answered with a score of their own. They then went for the lead with a two point conversion try and Bachman ran it in and the host Cavaliers had an 8-7 lead. The first half ended this way. It briefly looked like the Shamnxks were going to take the lead
real quick when they apparently were going to return the second half kickoff for a score. However, that little yellow flag was thrown detecting a clip and thev simply had the hall to start the third period. Thev, however, with the help of a lake punt on which a big 3b vards was gained, did manage to push the ball right down inside the five vard line. They were stopped and turned the ball over on downs, but the field position was in their favor and when a Culver fumble occurred around the 30 yard line, the Shamrocks recovered to have another crack at the end zone. This time thev cashed in as Coppens went to Spencer Wilcox on a pass over the middle and the big end took it in for the score. An attempt for two points failed off a fake kick, but the lead was North Liberty's. 13-8. The Cavaliers didn’t wait too long to come back again. Another flag hurt the Shamrocks when a pass interference was called to sustain the drive, and right after getting a first down on the penalty. Bachman took the handoff, found some day light and ran half the distance of the field for the go ahead score. A pass failed that would have put the Cavaliers up by three, so they enjoyed just a single point lead with time left yet in the third period.

The Shamrocks simplv weren't to h? had on this night I hev took the ( ulvcr kickoff and sustained another drive down the field to once again see-saw the lead with a score. Using the rest of the third period time and now in the fourth quarter. Coppens capped the drive with a keeper from two vards out and the visiting Shamnxks had taken the lead for the third time in the game. Again a trv for two points failed as just over II minutes remained in the game and the Shamnxks were on top 19 14. Culver, likewise, was not readv to roll over and play dead. The Cavaliers started one more drive using their backs on the ground the whole wav. They moved well into the Shamrocks territory. with a kev third and one just inside the 20 yard line finding them pounding for an apparent first down. However, once again the presence of a yellow flag on the field nuhfied the plav and 15 big yards were marched off against the Cavaliers for holding. From here thev were unable to make the yardage and the Shamrocks tixik over on downs. Thev then were able to hold the ball and run out the clock, wrapping up the hard-fought 19-14 victorv.
