keep their record clean in converence play. They are 3-0 in the NSC and only 3-4 overall this season. Glenn meanwhile, completed conference play with this game and have three more non-conference foes waiting in South Central, a very good Knox team, and Culver Military, a new opponent, to wind up the season. Glenn is 1-6 overall and 1 5 against conference schools. This happened early in the New Prairie game as the Falcons received and came out throwing with three straight passes that were incomplete. and they went into punt formation. A mishandled snap that was off target, found Jeff Tinkey electing to run the ball and he came within a yard of gaining the first down. However. New Prairie hx>k over with a first and 10 at the Falcons 35 to start their first offensive effort of the night. It was two first downs on five running plass and they had a first and goal from the 4. The Falcons threw them back one on first down, they gained two on second down and Glenn broke through to down them six yards behind the line on third down bringing up a fourth and goal from the 9. However, the Cougars were successful on one of their very few passes of the game, a 9 yard scoring strike from Mike Sherbun to Rich Mroczkiewicz for the score. Scott Jones kicked the extra point and the Cougars held a 7-0 lead with less than half of the first quarter gone. she Falcons then ran 13 straight plays after the kickoff, gaining three first downs on the way. but turned the ball over on downs at the New Prairie 30. The teams then exchanged possession several times until the Falcons took over well into the second quarter on an interception by Mike Elkin. Two more first downs and a drive moving steadily was cut drastically short when Elkin tried to hit a swing pass to the right that Bret Strong played perfectly stepping in front of the would-be receiver and easily taking the ball with nothing but open space between him and the goal line 40 yards away. Another extra point and it was 14 0. the way the first half was to end.
Alter an exchange of possessions and punts in the second half. New Prairie found themselves in great field position with a first and 10 at the Falcons 44 after a punt and return gave them this positon. It took just 5 running plays, with Brian Williamson hitting once for 22 yards and Jack Davis once for 16 yards before the burly Williamson barreled over from three yards out for the score. The kick was again good and it was 21-0. but Glenn's Falcons showed they were not giving up after they received the next kickoff. Starting at their own 27. they ran 15 straight plays including a pass out of punt formation on a fourth down, and with Elkin picking the Cougar defense apart in this drive with five completions plus the one by Tinkey from punt formation, it was finally Elkin to Tinkey for the last six yards. After a 15 yard penalty on the extra point kick, they moved back to the 18 where Elkin then hit T inkey again for the two-point conversion. There was still 9:34 left in the game at this point. An onside kick was bobbled around, but the Cougars did cover the ball and after gaining one first down, found the ball jarred loose and Roger Haney covered the loose ball for Glenn. However, after they moved for one first down well into Cougar territory, a jarring tackle of Elkin trying to pass forced another fumble with New Prairie gaining possession. However, on the next play. Glenn returned the compliment with Elkin covering still vet another loose ball. However, after this turn of events, the Falcons couldn't get into the end zone fighting time and (he Cougars bo(h. and despite some more pass completions by Elkin for 45 sards in the last series of downs, the clock wound down with Glenn at the Cougar 25 yard line. The final score had been set. 218. The Falcons gained more yards rushing than the stats indicate, but in must-pass situation later in the game. Elkin was leveled several times taking big yardage off the Glenn total. He still hit 15 of 29 for 135 y ards and one TD in the game.
