Notes From Miller’s Merry Manor We congratulate Clara I haver on becoming a great great grandmother Our sympathy is extended to Addie Hanson, who lost a daughter-in-law and a brother this past w inter We are sorry to report the passing ol Lucy Lawson who was a resident here tor many years, though she had moved to another nursing home sometime ago. We are so glad to welcome back Phyllis Graves as cook, after her long and severe illness. Our sympathy is extended to Gwen Cromie and June Bellinger, sister and grandmother of little Stephanie Bellinger who passed away after a long illness. They were former aides of our home. Wedding bells are in the offing tor some former aides: Candice Dollahan. Delia Huffstetter. Kathy Eddinger. Also for those of our present aides: Karol Cripe. Gina Newland and Donna Belos. We send best wishes to each one ot them. The April birthday party was held on Sundav. April 2^ with the following residents, who had birthdays during April as special guests: Myrtle Barney. Paul Biblock. Mabel Anderson. Myrtle Herbold. Pamela Savior. Adelaide Millard and Tony Bentley. We were entertained by a very fine singing trio from the Pentecostal Church in Mishawaka. It you visit us in the future you will see changes here as the remodeling progresses. It won't look like the same place. The new carpeting is very attractive. ( arbn ncr was there for a few days but has returned. We wish all a speedv recovery. We wish lor our good friend. Mrs. Waldron, a verv successful operation and wish her a complete and quick recovery and a more comfortable future. Several ot our aides will graduate from High School this year. They are April Reed. Yvonne Hajicek, Paulette Kennedy, Kathy Saxton. Janice Houser. Kim Fischer and Ann Chamberlin. Also Kathy Groves Iron’ the kitchen staff. We hope many will stay with us on part time and success in whatever future they choose. We are glad to report that Pam Saylor’s daughter-in-law is making good recovery from the stroke she suffered some weeks ago. We apologize to Darlene Gearheart for omitting her name from the list of entertainers for our Heart Fund when she brought her puppet and showed us what a good ventriloquist she is. Also we thank the Urey School for assisting in our passing our goal of SbtX). SI .(XX) was reached. Thank you to everyone w ho helped. We would like to thank all the area churches for their Monday night services each month. When we saw in the church bulletin the announcement of the Passover, we expressed an interest m attending. Betty Ogle arranged for nine of us to be driven to the Presbyterian Church in Walkerton on I hursdav evening. April 3. Our director of nursing. Marge Kronk. went with us and assisted those who needed help. Debbie Kronk drove one car and Sandy Fasset drove another, and we thank them sincerely for their assistance. Lreena Briggs, one of our volunteers, also accompanied us and we thank her for her help. Our curiosity was satisfied when the ritual started. Unleavened bread, grape juice, lettuce, pars-
lev. hard boiled egg and horseradish. and the bowl ot salt water. A pamphlet explaining the ritual was at each place, half printed in Jewish and halt in English. A Jewish friend from South Bend explained the ritual and he alone did the hand washing when that part of the ritual came. All ot us thank Rev. Barnett for bringing this service to our locale. It has been added to our good memories. To Publish Writers Works This Summer Ihe Writers Workshop met on Monday evening and made tentative plans for the publication of an anthologv of work done by their members and guests. This collection will be made over the summer months and anyone, regardless of age. wishing to submit work to be considered, can contact Nadine Keiper at the Koontz Lake Library any afternoon except Thursday and Sundav. If help is needed, one of the Workshop members will be willing to assist them. Submissions to the "1980 Writer's Digest Writing Competiton" were read at the Mondav meeting. Deadline for the contest is June 30. NBO. Members will bring their choices for the contest to the Mav meeting, ready to be sent out. "A letter from Lillie” was in answer to a rejection received from Reader's Digest, bv Adelaide Stitils. Her other offering was a poem. "Point ot View", leila Bare read a fine article. "A Tribute to Jesse Ow ens". w hon she had met in college. She had also poetically described an "Indiana Spring". The Workshop's only songwriter. Henry Trzinski. had tried his hand at a gospel hymn called "Keep the Devil Away”, and a humorous ditty by the dubious title of "The Left-legged Duck”. A short poem. "Good Tidings” and an excellent tribute to spring called "Sleeping Beauty” were read by their author. Ed Moravek. Spring was also serenaded by Lucille Dickson in "The Awakening”. "Hey. I See /X Rattlesnake!” was an account of spring yard cleaning by Nadine Keiper. The Workshop meets on the third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Koontz Lake Library. Guests are welcome. O-D Art Students Works On Display At K.L. Library The art work of the children at the Oregon-Davis Elementary School are on display at the Kixmtz Lake Library until Mav lOth. The drawings show innate talent as well as the results of verv capable instruction by Georgette Savoie, art teacher, at the Oregon and Davis Elementary Schools. New books at the librarv this week arc: "The Regensburg Legacy” by Hoosier author Jack Bickham; "Niagara” bv Robert Lewis Taylor, "No Love Lost" by Helen Van Slyke and "The Rise and Fall of the Shah” by Amin Saikai.
