Plymouth Just Too Much For Glenn In Tourney The John Glenn Falcons gave it their best shot Friday night and let the Plymouth Pilgrims know they were in a ballgame, but the Falcons just couldn't quite match the host team for the sectional and suffered a 73-60 loss. This ended the season for coach Jim Waller and his Falcons with a 6-15 record, not one that will go down as a great year, but one that to some extent is acceptable considering the events of the past season. This is an improvement of two wins over the 1978-79 record for Glenn, Glenn scored first as 6'4'' sophomore Mike Elkin wasted little time in getting a lay-in just five seconds after the tip. Terry Anspaugh then added another after play had changed ends a couple of times with Plymouth not putting their first points on the board until Kris Tuttle swished a nine footer from the lane after almost two minutes had passed. Craig Ochs counted with an 11 footer from the side in

Glenn’s next possession and then some more time ran off before Rick \ anc/a hit a lay-in for Plymouth. Anspaugh hit one of two free throws but Mike Hite matched this and then with 4:55 showing on the clock Bryan Gerard hit a lay-in from the right side to knot the count at 7. Elkin pushed Glenn ahead once again as he hit one of two attempts from the 15 Exit line but Hite also used the side entry to the basket for a lay-in as Plymouth was using the baseline well against the Falcon defense. Ochs came back with another 11 footer to push Glenn up one more time, but this was to be their last lead of the night as Tuttle hit first from 16 foot in the circle, then Vancza from under and Gerard capped a seven point spurt w ith another lay-in driving the baseline and he was fouled for a three point play. Elkin broke this streak with a lay-in of his ow n moving well to the basket, but one of two freebees b\ Vancza and a rebound lay-in by Scott Skiles followed. Jeff Tinkey canned a 14 footer, but a foul sent Tuttle to the line for one of two with six seconds left and the Pilgrims enjoyed a 20-14 score after the first period. Glenn held tough for the first
three minutes plus of the second quarter hut then fell off due to another Plymouth streak. After Skiles hit a 14 footer. Elkin banked home another and was fouled for a three point play. Hite swiped the ball from Glenn out front and drove for a nice lay-in but Elkin came right back with another as he was going to the basket the best he has all year. Tinkey then converted one of two from the line but Skiles matched this and Anspaugh got free for a lay-in to cut the lead to three. 25-22. This is where Plymouth spurted to a good lead again. Gerard hit a seven footer and a 21 footer, Tuttle took a fine Phil Wendel pass for a lay-in and Hite swished a long baseline shot on which he was fouled but missed the potential third point. Elkin finally broke the string after more than two minutes of nothing but Plymouth as he hit two free throws and the foul line was to be a big part of the Glenn attack as the Pilgrims were starting to pile up a few personals that could possibly hurt. After Elkin's two. Vancza got two for the Big Red but Tinkey came right back with two more for Glenn. Gerard canned another long lefty from the corner but Terry Kaser slipped in a nice 13 fexrter and Tinkey hit one of two free throws as time was running out. A late foul let Chuck Ward get two attempts and he made them both and with the late spurt it was Plymouth 37, Glenn 31 at the main intermission. Plymouth was not to be denied and their bench had a lot to do with the win as the second half unfolded and the Pilgrims got in some foul trouble with four of the Pilgrims piling up four personals at different stages of the third quarter. Skiles hit first in this half and after Ochs canned one of two charity tosses, Gerard was again true with his lefthanded jumper. Tuttle scored from the left baseline 16 Exit out but Elkin and Ochs hit back-to-back for Glenn. Hite and Gerard matched this, both from under as Hite put a rebound back up and in and Gerard took another fine feed from Wendel for his lay-in. Anspaugh and Skiles traded baskets, both from short range, but Kaser and Elkin got two more field goals for the Falcons with time now showing less than two minutes and the Falcons were still hanging in their trailing by only seven. However. Wendel. Hite and Ron Sissel all got short shots up and in in a minute's time with Elkin hitting one of two from the line before the period ended with Glenn now trailing by a dozen,ss-43. Plymouth coach Jack Edison had only two starters in the line-up as the fourth period unfolded as he was protecting three with four personal fouls. Gerard was fouled right after the quarter unfolded, this being Anspaugh's fifth, ending his career at Glenn. His two free throws were matched by two b\ Brian Parker, but Wendel worked free for a lay-in as Plymouth was penetrating very well all night against the Falcons. A six point spurt with four of the points being fouls shots brought the Falcons back within eight as Elkin hit two. Parker got a rebound basket and Tinkey added two one-pointers to make it 59-51 with 4:14 left. This was as close as the Glenn boys were to get however, as Plymouth beat the press and Stuart Neidlinger hit a lay-in beating the Glenn defense with Skiles setting him up

nicely. Vancza then stole a ball and drove hard for a lay-in and Hite canned back-to-back lay-ins and Vancza added two more free throws to make it 69-51 with two and a half minutes left. This spelled the end for Glenn even though they did pocket a few points in the last minutes to bring the final margin back down to 13. They had given it their best, but just weren't the match for the Plymouth team. Elkin Hits 19 Points Mike Elkin finished the night with 19 points, his best offensive effort of his young career. He was taking the ball to the basket more in this game and it paid off in baskets as well as a lot of fouls. He had six baskets and seven of nine at the line. Tinkey. the other sophomore starter, hit double figures w ith 10. he also using the line well with six of eight from the stripe. Plymouth's balance was very gcxxl with Hite and Gerard, two seniors, each collecting 17 to lead the Pilgrims. Skiles and Vancza each added 11 and Tuttle, the fifth starter, hit nine to spread the points around verv well. This
