Argos Powers Over Falcons 72-49 Friday Ihe Argos Dragons continued their undefeated ways Friday night as they visited John Glenn for the third meeting between the two teams this season. The Dragons previously had defeated the Falcons in the Holiday Tourney at .Culver and in the Bi-County at LaVillc prior to winning a 72-49 decision Friday night. There is no doubt that Argos is one of the class teams of small schools in Indiana for a long time and a lot of their problem has to be staving "up" for their competition. Ihe Falcons started well against the Dragons, but after the Argos machine got rolling, it was another game there was little doubt as to who was going to come out the winner, but just how much. Ihe loss dropped the Falcons season record to 5-12. Coach Jim Waller started from the beginning to switch his defenses in an effort to stop or at least slow down the Argos express At

times it was man-to-man and then variations on zones with special attention being given Doug Jennings. one of the finest pure shooters around. Big Rich luttle opened the scoring, but Glenn's rapidly improving Jeff Tinkey was able to match this. Don O'Dell, a most valuable asset who often doesn't score much, hit one of two free throws and Tuttle then used his size and maneuvering ability to flip in another from under. Scoring wasn't going very fast in the early stages as the Falcons were causing a little concern to the normal Argos offense, and certainly a defense featuring the super quick hands and feet as well as great anticipation of the Argos team, isn't going to let a team get a run on them. Terry Anspaugh hit from the right baseline about medium distance out and Tinkey got rather a flat-footed rebound on a different bounce and put it back up and in for a 6-5 lead. O’Dell again hit one of two from the line, but Craig Ochs drilled an 11 footer for the lead once again. Jennings, who didn't get his first shot off until half the quarter was gone, and that a forced lay-in from too far
under, tickled the twine from the left baseline for his first basket and the muscular Mike Sheets scored from under for a 10-8 Argos lead. However, two fast baskets by Tinkey and Anspaugh. with time now less than one minute to go. put the Falcons in front once again. A lay-in off the baseline by Jim Montgomery tied it once more and then Mike Elkin and Sheetz traded lav-ins in the last 24 seconds to make it 14-14 after one quarter w ith the pace picking up in the last two minutes. Argos hit first in the second period as they caught the Glenn defense napping on the jump and Scheetz took just three seconds to get a lay-in. Brian Parker muscled one up and in hut the Dragons then grabbed a lead that was just to increase as action continued. Jennings hit first, then Scheetz as these two lav-ins opened a four point gap. Tinkey did get a basket for a brief break in the scoring string, but Jennings hit after a nifty steal gave him a seven footer. O'Dell hit one of two from the line and Kevin Heuer and Jennings both scored from under for a quick 9 point lead. Again it was Tinkey to break the string with a tip. hut Argos had the ball moving well on offense, taking advantage of the tact that both Parker and Elkin had drawn three personal fouls with their quick inside passing. Add to this a great defensive effort that led to steal after steal, and all of a sudden the close early game was 33-23 at halftime. This pattern continued in the third quarter as the Dragons really dominated with their quick passing and even quicker hands on defense as they moved through a very fast period of basketball to outscore Glenn 22-8. In this quarter, Jennings. who had "only” eight points in the first half, had five baskets himself as he had his offensive game under complete control. Ihe 55-31 third quarter lead had the outcome settled, it was now the "how much". As is usually the case, coach Phil Weybright was free with his substitutions as he always manages to give his players game time. Despite the fact that the Falcons scored the last quarter's first four points. Jennings hit the first four Argos baskets in just two minutes and 15 seconds and soon after this the entire bench was cleaned. The play did get a little loose on <xcassion and once and a while a little rough, but despite some slow scoring the action kept moving well and the Dragons easily extended their unbeaten string with the final margin being 72-49. Jennings Hits 26 Doug Jennings led all scorers with 26 points, all from the floor. He had 12 point support from both Scheetz and Tuttle as their front line usually leads their scoring bv a big margin. They had nine boys share the points. Glenn was led by I inkey as the 6’2" sophomore flipped in 16 points in this game but had no other player collect more than eight points with six boys sharing the points. The unusual thing about this game was the absence of free throw s as Argos managed to make only four and Glenn five, this accounting for the rapidity of the game with the action not being stopped time and time again for foul shots. Glenn’s B-Team Upsets Argos Ihe Falcons B-Team pulled a real good victory out of the hat Friday night as they edged the Argos reserves 30-28 in a low-scor-ing game but a good one that found the Falcons handing Argos only their second loss all season. It was a big win for Gordon Mosson’s team. Box Score Argos fg ft fta p Scheetz 6 0 0 1 D Jennings 13 0 2 2 luttle 6 0 0 3 O'Dell 0 3 6 1 Montgomery 3 0 0 2 S. Jennings 0 0 0 0 T Davis 2 0 0 0
