the South Bend Century Center. Mrs. Violet Ellis. R.N., Instructor of the School of Nursing, was the principal speaker at the ceremonies for the students completing a three-year program of nursing education. WRITE ABOUT BIRTHDAYS OF FAMOUS PEOPLE There was no birthday cake. And if there had been, it would never have held enough candles to mark the birthdays of Robert E. Lee, Wilham McKinley and Lewis Carroll. But the Writers Workshop heard the stories of these men on Monday evening. The writers met at the Koontz Lake Library. The assignment was to research and write about someone famous whose birthday fell in January. A special "bio'’ by Leila Bare, "Ned Nothing”, was a spoof, and showed a talent for writing humor, a difficult medium. Discussions included the submitting of material which would fit the particular editorial needs of the magazine or publication chosen. The group will participate in the IMHO Writers Digest Competition, deadline June 30. I9KO. Work to be submitted may be brought to the Workshop for criticism and help before being submitted. The entry forms can be found in the Writers Digest for January, or by calling Nadine Keiper, 586-2176 mornings
or 586-3353 afternoons except for Thursdays arftl Sundays. The contest is for short stories, articles or poetry, and one each may be sub mitted. The next Workshop will be on the third Monday.
