Jimtown Edges (continued from page one) Miller, supposediv one of the premier guards in the NSC this year, was having turnover problems losing the ball more than he handled it cleanly Put in this streak also a rebound lay-in by Anspaugh and Ochs first basket of the night, a short side jumper, and a ten point spurt in less than two minutes made it 26-22. Neither team was able to score for well over a minute here with Jimtown finally breaking their drv spell with a three point play on a lax-in by Dann Metcalf off a fine feed bv Neely. However, after Kaser hit one of two again from the line. Kinder dropped in an easy lay-in off a Miller feed to open an eight point margin but Glenn was to score the last eight of the half with Anspaugh getting two baskets and Ochs and Kaser one each. Kaser’s beating the buzzer by four seconds to knot it at 31 at the main intermission. Then came show time. Neely, the leading scorer in the entire area last season and leading again this year, had managed only three baskets in the opening 16 point spurt with one of two free throw s in the second quarter. He was being dogged by Ochs, assisted by anyone who could lend a helping hand and although forcing a couple of

shots, didn’t shoot all that much in the first half. This was about to come to an end as anyone who enjoys basketball the way it should be plaved had to forget what color his jersey was and appreciate the individual effort he put on for a big nine minutes of the early second half Anspaugh, himself the possessor of 14 at halftime, opened the second half with a medium baseline jumper Neely cranked his first one through from 16 foot at the 6: IK mark After a Jimtown turnover resulted in a solo effort again by Anspaugh. Neely then bagged a 15 f(M>ter and swiped a hall on a careless inbounds pass for a lay-in to give the Jimmies a lead they never lost. Hershberger hit a lay-in as he had been riding the bench a gt»od share of the time in foul trouble but Ochs hit one of two charity shots and Anspaugh banked a shorty in to cut the lead to one. However, a corner shot by Metcalf was followed by one of two from the line by Hershberger to open a four point spread again. Ochs cut the lead to two with a baseline jumper, but a fine Neely pass found Hershberger all alone for an easy one. Anspaugh hit from 16 foot, but Neely tickled the twine from 17. Elkin completely mowed a Jimmie down, but was given the free throws which he made to mark the first time in almost three full quarters that a player from either team put two

free throws through at one effort. Neely answered this with a great baseline bank shot and with :02 left his 12 footer found nothing but net to make it 50-44 after three. Parker started the last period with a short baseline shot but Neely worked free on a nice move tor a lay-in. Parker hit one of two from the foul line, but another Neely lav-in resulted in a three point play as he was hammered. Parker put in a rebound shot as the Falcons were dominating the boards on Jimtown most of the game. How ever. Kinder scored from under and after Ochs again hit just one of two free throws, Neely canned the game’s longest shot, a 22 footer from the side and then flipped in a short shot off a great move in the lane for his 21st point in a stretch of just under nine minutes. This put the Jimmies up by 11. 61-50. This didn’t put the game out of reach as the continuance of "peaks and valleys" still hit both teams. Turnovers and not much rebounding continued to hurt the Jimmies while Glenn started whittling away at the lead. They suffered from some ridiculous turnovers and also more so-so free throw shooting io hamper their efforts. Anspaugh hit a pair of free throws, but Miller got one of two to fall. Anspaugh then fouled out with 4:22 remaining and 24 points, but the Jimmies were as bad as Glenn from the stripe and missed the shot. Kinder fouled out for Jimtown shortly after and Parker could hit just one

of two but a rebound shot missed only to have Jeff Tinkey get a second crack and put it up and in. Miller then slowly worked his way through the Falcon defense for a lay-in, but Kaser answered with one of two and a steal after the missed shot found Tinkey getting an easy lay-in to cut the lead to 64-56. Neely hit a pair of one-pointers but Kaser canned an 11 footer. Hershberger got a lay-in, but this time it was Parker who answered with another rebound basket. Miller made his move down the lane again for another short one, but Parker banked home a short angle shot and Elkin ended up with the ball and half a basketball floor alone following a turnover for an easy lay-in. This trimmed it to four, but Mark Smith hit one of two from the line and with :55 left. Metcalf got both ends of a one-and-one to fall as the Falcons had to foul to try for possession. Ochs came right back with a jumper from the top of the circle and then swipped a ball on a contact play that wasn’t called and fed Kaser for a solo lay-in. With 26 and IK seconds left. Jimtown missed the front of a one-and-one each time with the last one finding a very "slow clock” as Glenn rebounded and moved down the floor. A wild scramble on the floor resulted in a jump ball with :I2 showing and after the tip was won and a pass to Tinkey . he laid it in with still :12 showing, cutting the lead to one. 73-72. A foul was necessary and Neely calmly hit both shots at the :04 second mark to ice it up. but the scoring star also intercepted a pass in the dying seconds to assure that Glenn wasn't going to get a chance for a shot or foul that might turn the trick. The final was 75-72. Neely Hito 32 Neely ended the night with 32 poinys as this outstanding star really was the difference. He had 13 baskets and six from the line. He had double figure help from Metcalf and Hershberger with 11 each and all seven who plaved for Jimtown shared in their points. A 24 point performance by Anspaugh mostly inside the Jimtown defense, paced the Falcons with good balance also with Parker and Ochs with 12 and Kaser 11. Elkin and Tinkey split the other 13 points.
