Mrs. Charles Shogren. of Koontz Lake, came home last week from a ten day visit in Pecatonica. Illinois, with her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Larson. The birthday of Mr. Joseph Lowry was celebrated Friday night with a birthday cake and ice cream served to Mr. and Mrs. Phil Brant and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Wiegand and family. Mr. and Mrs. Roman Brehm will serve as hosts for the Koontz Lake Conservation Club dinner on Saturday evening at the club house. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Knowlton were in South Bend on Sunday afternoon to visit with their daughter and family. Mr. and Mrs. Frank McDonnell. Mrs. Bertha Urbin and her sister. Mrs. Ruth Hughes, of South Bend, were in Rochester on Saturday to visit with their sister, Mrs. Anna Allen who is a patient at the Canterbury Nursing Home. Mrs. Viola Barden and daughter, Christine and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Rough and family were in Muskegon. Michigan, over the week end visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Larry Barden and family. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Onika. of Koontz Lake. Mr. Albert Brenner and Miss Dorothea Brenner attended the Scottish Rite Chorus Christmas party on Monday night of this week given at the South Bend Shrine Club. A surprise birthday dinner was given for Mrs. Dale Ullery on Sunday evening in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Houser. Other guests besides the Houser family included Mr. Dale Ullery, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Mercer and family, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Fisher, of North Liberty and David Flaugher.

ATTEND CONVENTION The State Farm Bureau Convention combined with the Co-Op this year recently was held on December 2. 3 and 4 in Indianapolis, had the following from Johnson Township attending: Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hesters. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Knowlton. Mrs. Esther Kaufman and Mrs. Alma Daube. The group went by bus and returned home on Monday night. HONORED AT SHOWER Sue Rush was honored at a miscellaneous bridal shower on Sunday afternoon. December 2. at the home of Mrs. Carl Dreessen. Fifteen guests were present with each guest bringing their favorite recipe for Sue. Two Elected To Chamber Board Thursday Jo Hershberger and Kenny Chapman were elected to the board of the Walkerton Chamber of Commerce at the November 29 meeting. They succeed Verda Karn and Craig De Myer who have served for three years. A donation of $1,000.00 will be made to the Stephanie Bellinger fund. SCOUT NEWS Park 293 met recently, Den 1 presented the opening. After announcement the following awards were presented. Christ Christensen and Charles Vardcman. Citizenship and athletic pins were earned by these Webelos, Kirk Rice. Tom Clifton, Joe Walker, Tim Clifton and Ronnie Truhler. Following the presentation of awards a skit was performed by Den 4 members, the theme being, "Kinghts of Yore”. On Tuesday, December 11, at 7:00 p.m., at the Youth Building, there will be a Christmas party for the Cub Scouts and Webelos and their families. A visit from Santa is expected. The boys and leaders would like to thank all those who supported our bake sale and candle sale. Your support made it a real success. GIRL SCOUT NEWS Girl Scout Troop 81 is currently busy making macrame Christmas decorations and ceramic Christmas gifts. During their last meeting and Christmas party on December 17, they will receive the proficiency badges they have earned this fall. The girls have also finished making and dressing apple head dolls. ' Lake Library. W.M.S. MEETS The Walkerton Wesleyan W.M. S. held their meeting on Monday, December 3, with the lesson topic entitled. "The Star Still Shines.” 1 his was a Christmas story through song and scriptures with a specific focus on Jesus Christ as the star. There were 14 present and all enjoyed a real nice carry-in dinner.
