NIPSCO Refund To Customers Soon Underway According to the clerk-treasurer, Kathryn Tiede Chrapliwy, a total of $50,305.33 will be returned to the Walkerton utility's customers in the form of a refund check to be received in December. Mrs. Chrapliwy said plans are to mail the refund checks to each electricity customer with the December I utility bill. The amount of the refund will be based on the total kilowatt hours used since January 23 until October 11 of this year and will be computed at 00496778 cents per kilowatt hour. The refund is the result of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission order issued on October 11. approving the settlement agreement between Walkerton and the Northern Indiana Public Service Co. (NIPSCO). The agreement includes an approximately 10 per cent reduction of Walkerton’s wholesale electric rates with a refund of the amount of overpayment to NIPSCO since January 23. Firemen Initiate Fund Raiser For Little Stephanie lhe Walkerton Volunteer Fire Department is starting a fund raiser for Stephanie Bellinger, three-vear-old daughter of Wayne and Marv Bellinger, of Walkerton. Stephanie is terminally ill with Wilms Tumor, a cancer of the kid nev. which has spread to her lungs and all of her intestinal organs. The cancer was found when Stephanie was 10-months old and at the same time doctors removed all of one kidney. Last February one-half of Stephanie s lung was also removed. Stephanie has been through radiation and five different chcmotherapv treatments along with a radio active implant in her lung. Doctors have now taken Stephanie off all treatments at Riley Hospital. Indianapolis, because, "there is no more that can be done for her". "Wilms Tumor has the best prognosis for long term survival except for a twenty per cent group, which Stephanie is among", says Mrs. Bellinger. "My main concern is that these children, and children of the future, can be diagnosed at an early age. Doctors can. and so can mothers, by watching the clinical pattern of presentation w ith Wilms Tumor. First, an abdominal swelling. or a lump or mass is observed. The tumor occurs in the left or right kidney. Unfortunately, in many cases, a relatively slow but persistent increase of abdominal girth has gone unrecognized for sometime, allowing the patient to present a hugh abdominal mass which frequently crosses the midline and is often associated with metastastic disease. Please check your children". says Mrs. Bellinger. The firemen have purchased the following prizes to be awarded: a Craig AM-FM stereo, a General Electric 12 inch television, two electric knives and a barrel of booze donated by the Cole Mme. Tickets are available from the Walkerton Firemen or the Walkerton Police Department at SIAM) each. Any money exceeding the goal will be dontated to Riley Hospital for further research of childhood cancer. The Bellingers expenses are many including a bill for $2,000 which has been due for two years. Anyone wishing to make a donation may do so by sending a check to the "Stephanie Bellinger Fund' at the Farmers State Bank of WyattWalkerton. The Bellingers would like to thank the men of the fire department who have been so super. They also would like to thank EMT’s Larry Dill and Mike Amor who would come upon a call to check Stephanie's heart and respiratory rate. Thank vou all. Stephanie has two sisters, Gwen Cromey. 17 and Nita Cromey, 15 and a brother, Joe Cromey, Jr., nine. Let's show our community support and help with this fund raiser for Stephanie and her family, buy a ticket or two. or just simply donate to the Stephanie Bellinger Fund at the Farmers State Bank, Walkerton.
