WALKERTON TOWN BOARD NEWS The board of trustees of the Town of Walkerton met in regular session on November 19 with all members present. The minutes and claims were approved. Gene Brems, fire chief for the Walkerton Fire Department, addressed the board and the two township trustees. Ted Daube, of Johnson Township, and Lloyd Stephenson, of Lincoln Township. Lhe main concern was the department's equipment. He said the fire department has been asking the town board and township trustees to do something about the equipment for five years and nothing has been done. He stated the department alone has paid out $23,481.50. Brems further stated he has talked to two neighboring departments and both have gotten new equipment through grants or debt service monies. The last major piece of equipment was purchased by the Town in 1974, a LaFrance truck and since that time the town has grown in size through population and industrial expansion. The department has a three-way governing body and Brems feels they must concentrate on some equipment. He stated a new pumper and a new chassis under the tanker is needed. This was discussed further with the promise of exploring the possibilities for raising money to be considered. The chief did thank the town board for their help in the last four years and stated he thought this board had done more for the fire department than any other board. The fire contract was read and discussed for 1980 involving the three governing groups. All points were agreed upon and the contract will be written up and signed at the next board meeting. The town board signed an agreement with Lawson & Fisher to act as the town’s engineering consultant to provide services specifically requested by the board. The number one item on the list is the drainage problem in the Gicnn-L subdivision. Melvin Divine asked that the board, as of January 1. 1980. hire his wife, Norine, in his place. A motion was made, seconded and passed to honor this request. Gail Malstaff resigned his position on the Park and Recreation board due to job complications. No further business followed and the meeting was adjourned. NOTICE OF TRUSTEE'S REPORT OF UNCOLN TWP. Lloyd E.
