ELECTION TUESDAY, NOV. 6 1 uesday. November 6is election day I his is not a national, or even a state or counts election, but simph an election in both Walkerton and North 1 ibertv tor I ow n ( ouncils. Mans people will not take part in their right to vote on this election das. telling themselves as well as others that they could care less and aren't interested. It is obvious that mans people aren't interested when one remembers back to August when the various parties held their caucuses and in some cases not enough people turned out to make it legal. Add to this the tact that some spots had to be filled on the ballots or are left blank due to the fact that despite efforts of the local parts heads, people just couldn't be found to run. A lot of things point to the lack of interest of such elections as this as is also the case mans sears in the primary elections. However, it is a sure bet that more people in Walkerton or in North Liberty or any other small or larger towns for that matter, have expressed their views one was or the other about the was the town is run . . . certainly it is no news locally the issues that have popped up in the past four years with a lot of noise being heard in both of our local towns in the last year or two on some very hot topics. And right now controversies about one phase or another of the towns looms hot and heavy in a lot of corners. This is the election that puts it right to the people involved . . . the residents of the toss ns. In fact, restrictions on who is eligible to vote are much less for the town elections, almost anyone IS sears of age living within the corporate limits is eligible . . . they do not have to he registered for a counts. state or national election to cast their vote in the town elections. There should be 100°o turnout of all of those who have had their grips or dissatisfaction os er local problems tins numerous to mention. If anyone who has complained one was or another to the town boards or through others had their feelings hurt and they don't choose to vote in these elections, they should trs the impossible . . . keep their mouths shut and take what they get. I his is their legal way to trs and solve the problems. In Walkerton their are 11 candidates . . . two positions are uncontested. the fourth ward and the clerk-treasurer’s position. Ihe names have been published and arc on the front page of this issue of “The Independent-News so anyone with feelings can easily and with very little effort, contact the candidates and see what their feelings are on some of these problems. Tell them what you feel and ask them questions . . . their names are just there for no reason . . . thev are running for the offices that will serve four year terms of certainly not the most glamourous job in the world. In North Liberty, all wards have two candidates as well as the clerktreasurer s job. Here the votes have a choice in every race and certainly in towns such as North Liberty and Walkerton, most of the names are familiar to most and certainly these people are close enough to be contacted as well. Now is the time to take advantage of these situations and plan ahead for election day next Tuesday. At any rate every resident of Walkerton and North Liberty should remember Tuesday . November 6is election day and it is not only a priviledge. but almost a duty for more people to take advantage of the situations and get out and vote. yMt WHEN... I am sorry to inform vou that I have resigned as Assistant Chief, but the internal pressures are too great when one sees that uniform ity and organization cannot be obtained. We have a verv good town here and I urge all of the citizens to take part in your future here. It seems we cannot keep well trained officers on the department.
