WINNING FLOATS AT HOMECOMING & r.' - The John Glenn Homecoming parade held last Thursday in Walkerton was a large affair with nine floats, the John Glenn marching band, lire trucks, police escort, and the queen and king candidates in sporty cars. The winning float was made by the Sophomore Class and was of Winnie the Pooh and stated "Pooh on ( ulver, let s winnie! Ihe float was followed by the hard working sophomores and called themselves the Pooh Crew. Mr. and Mrs. Russ Rhine, New Port Richey, Florida, formerly of Walkerton, recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversarv. Russ has been playing a lot of golf and enjoying the sunnv weather I he Rhines are to be great-grand-parents for the third time. Russ was the owner and operator of the Walkerton Bods Shop, Michigan Street. for many vears. Miss Doroths Moore and Mrs. Ruth Earlv, of Hermitage. Tennessee. visited with Mrs. Newton Williamson Ihursdav of last week. Mrs Paris retired two vears ago from mans \ cars w ith the Ply mouth Pilot and this was her first visit and is enjoying it. Mrs. I arly is the house guest of Miss Moore. Mrs. Faris is calling on old friends who like Mrs. Williams, enjoved her friendship and assistance in being a correspondent. Mrs. Mildred Jackson, of South Bend, was an overnight guest of Mrs. George Fcrverda on September 19 and attended the Walkerton I astern Star meeting which honored past matrons and past patrons. Mrs. Jackson served as worths matron in 195“'. Mrs. Jackson also visited with her daughter and' family. Mr. and Mrs. Kenny Chapman. w hile here. Iwo ladies residing in the 7b Apartments had birthdays this month. Mrs. Maltilda Lange, age 90. had a quiet day and shared her beautiful birthdav cake with the other residents and enjoved their dropping in. 1 sther Kaufman, who lets no grass grow under her leet, had a birthday too. Mrs. William Keehn visited with her parents and on Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Asher, of Cross n Point, were dinner guests of the Elders. On Wednesdas evening, last week, Mrs. Newton Williams, "b Apartments, served a delicious six o'clock dinner to the Singles Club. Those present included Mrs. Ellen Brede. Mrs. Doris Schamer. Mrs Crsstal Lawrence, Miss Dorothea Brenner and Mrs. Helen Smith, all of KiMHitz Lake; Mrs Bess Fer verda. Mrs. Thelma Lawrence and Mrs. Bertha Urbin. of Walkerton. Miss Brenner and Mrs. Lawrence won the bridge prizes and each guest was given a little hostess bar of soap as thev left for home. Mr and Mrs. Donald Dipert will serve as hosts for the Saturday evening dinner at the Koontz lake
