TRI KAPPA NEWS The North Liberty Zeta Pi Chapter of Tri Kappa met on Wednesday. September 12 in the home of Mrs. Maurice Quigley. Co-hostes-ses for the meeting were Mrs. Harold Clark and Mrs. Leon Davenport. Twenty-one members were present for roll call. Mrs. Jack Carr, Advisor, presided over the business meeting. Mrs. Don Eberly, recording secretary. read the minute from the previous meeting. Mrs. Jerry Knepp, treasurer, submitted the chapter s financial report. A note from Mr. Richard Vanderhagen was read thanking Zeta Pi for its donation to the North Liberty Jazz Combo. The scrapbook committee presented the completed scrapbook titled ‘‘Zeta Pi Opens Many
Doors". It was reported that Mrs. Howard Jones, Mrs. Michael Knepp. Mrs. Allen Albright. Mrs. Eberly and Mrs. Carr were to attend a mini workshop at the Province Officer's home on September 15. The Bazaar co-chairmen, Mrs. Jerry Knepp and Mrs. Quigley, thanked the members for their participation at the recent bazaar held at the Potato Creek Festival. Ihe project was reported to have been very successful. Members voted to have a mini-bazaar and pecan sale in November. The initiation ceremony for new members will be held at the October 10 meeting, which will be at the United Methodist Church. Incoming officers will also be install cd at this meeting. PU BAND BOOSTERS MEET The Polk-Lincoln-Johnson Band Boosters met on Monday evening. September 10. at the John Glenn High School band room for their regular monthly meeting. A committee was set up of Morris Searfoss, Lynn Brownlee. Ed Klopfenstein and Carl Doherty to investigate and make a better
way to transport band uniforms to different parades and contests. It was decided to purchase a new bull horn for Mr. Doherty and new gloves as well as spats for the band. The bixisters w ill be serving concessions for the Country Western Show at the high school on Thursday evening. September 20. The committee for this project consists of Lorraine Ward. Richard Elaugher, Ruby Samuelson. Joby Petry and Nancy Chapman. The annual chili supper will be on Eriday. October 12 before and during the football game with South Central at the high school. Mrs. Curtis Peacock and Mrs. Petry are co-chairmen. Assisting will be Lorraine Hostetler, Nedra Williams and Ruby Samuelson. Band parents arc now selling $5.00 certificates to families of the area for one beautiful Bxlo family portait in living color. Co-chair-men of this project are Nancy Chapman and Doris Burch. The annual turkey raffle will be held on November 10 at Ray's Supermarket. Emilie Harlowzinski is chairman. The next regular Band Bcxisters meeting will be on October 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the John Glenn band room. GUESTS AT CLUB MEETING The Lincoln Township, La Porte County, Farm Bureau, were guests of the Johnson Tow nship club for a carry-in wiener and sausage roast on Thursday evening. September 13. at the Community Building. Mrs Esther Kaufman gave the table prayer. Louis Dipert, chairman, presided at the business session. Mrs. Harold Knowlton, women's leader, gave the devotions. "School Days" and "The Yellow School Bus". It was announced that the District Women's Leader and Pet and Hobby Leader w ill have a dinner on September 14 at Crown Point. The LaPorte County Farm Bureau float placed fourth at the state fair. Randy Vcrkler became a new member. A candlelight memorial service was given by Mrs. Kaufman in memory of the late John Kepcha. A new roof for the building will be financed through donations and a bake sale which is planned for

October 6. Mrs. Roy Williams introduced the guest speaker. Mark Toth, former pharmacist at Jacob Drugs, Walkerton, who gave a very interesting talk on drug abuse. Dtxir prizes were awarded to Judy Dipert and Gregory Williams. Guest awards were given to Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Smith. Miss Ralue Smith. Mrs. Wade Tennis and Mrs. John Hostetler.
