WALKERTON TOWN BOARD NEWS I he Walkerton Town Board met in regular session on Mondav. September I” at with members William Elkin. Gladys Prentis and Jack Rizek present. Ihe minutes of the previous meeting and claims 593 to 631 were approved. Several questions were asked of the board concerning the new subdivision B. F. Williams is putting in at the south edge of Walkerton. Such as noise of equipment early in the morning, the road leading to the subdivision from Walkerton I rail and the building of a house before it appeared that requirements were completed were aired by area residents. The board answered the questions to the best of their knowledge and informed the persons inquiring that Mr. Williams has met the requirements of phase I of that subdivision. Also stated was the fact that a retention basin should be installed within 10 days and the early morning noise by the crew laying the streets, is almost completed. The road leaving the Walkerton Trail into the subdivision, it was assumed, would be clear of the brush that causes a p<K>r visibility situation. James Clapper, of the Clapper Burger Dairy Store, inquired of the board what was necessary for him to apply for a building permit for a 12x12 foot cement structure to the rear of his property. He was informed that he would have to get a commercial permit from the state first, then apply to the Town of Walkerton. Clapper also complained about the box car behind the property of Karn’s TV & Appliance that is used for storage, is partialis on Clapper’s property and that it is in a terrible condition. I his has made it almost impossible tor milk deliveries to be made to the rear of Clapper’s store. Mrs. Ed Klopfenstein inquired who would be repairing the damage made to their culvert and when the other culverts would be put in on State Road 23 at the south part of town. The clerk-treasurer assured Mrs. Klopfenstein that she had called Mr. Pavel and informed him that the water mains were laid and the town was reads for the culverts to be installed. Robert Sante, consultant on the Walkerton Redeselopmcnt projects informed the board of recent progress on the Isler Street Project and a new program called "Section — Moderate Housing" involving 40 rental unites in the West York area. He said the application for 1979 had been rejected but he felt that is well and good as the Town would not be reads for this until 1980. He suggested a private meeting in Indianapolis with the HUD people by the board men' hers. He also informed the board that he has left Hughes Associates to form his own company, that being Communits Des elopmcnt Associates, The board has chosen to seek a release of the contract with the Hughes firm so that Mr Sante could continue to handle the job he has so abls started in Walkerton. A letter has been composed to Hughes requesting this release. Ihe clerk was asked to invite all business and industries to a meeting concerning solving the polution problem of the community. Ihe John Glenn Homecoming festivities will begin Thursday with the building of floats bv classes and organizations for the parade on I hursday evening at 6:(X) p.m. Beginning in the Urey parking lot. the parade will travel down Van Buren Street to Georgia Street proceeding down John Glenn Drive and on to the bonfire on the football field. A pep rails has been planned which includes speeches by coaches John Hostrawser. Dennis Rippy and lorn Hall. Float winners will also be announced. During half time of the GlennCulver game Friday night, September 21. the 19’9 Homecoming queen and king will be crowned bv the I9"H homecoming queen and king. Anne Huffstetter and Dick Jones. Ihe John Glenn High School Student Council sponsors the homecoming activities. CUB SCOUT RECRUITMENT DRIVE UNDERWAY Pack 293 Cub Scouts. Walkerton, welcomes boys of ages eight, nine and ten sears of age to join and become Cub Scouts. There will be a meeting on Monday. September 25 at 7:00 p.m at the Walkerton Lions Club Youth Building for parents and their bovs who have not vet joined the scouting program. Alsoanv adults who are interested in being adult leaders are welcome.
