Don and Ruth Knowlton and family took their son Philip, over the Labor Day week end to Bob Jones University, in Greenville. South Carolina. His new address is Wade Hampton Drive, R. K. Johnson Dormitory. P. 0. Box 40385. Greenville. South Carolina 29014. Week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Burch was her sister. Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Hathaway, of Pentwater. Michigan. Sunday dinner guests were the Hathaways and Mr. and Mrs. Orin Hiler. of Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Beaty returned Wednesday evening from a two week visit with their granddaughter and family. Mr. and Mrs. John McCall and son, John, at Ennis. Montana. The trip was made by Gres hound bus. a new experience for the Beatys. which was really enjoyed. While there they were joined by Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Freeland, of Lax Cruces. New Mexico; Mrs. Lawrence Freeman, of Norman, Oklahoma; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Roberts, of Canoga Park. California; and Mr. and Mrs. Terry Toole and son. Brendon, of Modesto. California, for a few days. Fishing, picnics, cook outs and trips to Yellowstone National Park, Virginia City and Nevada City, Three Forks, where three rivers join to form the Missouri River and a drive around the beautiful Ennis Lake were some of the activities enjoyed while there. Traveling from Chicago to Bozeman. Montana, most of the time on highways 90 and 94. stops were made at the Wisconsin Dells. Fargo. North Dakota. Bismark, the capitol. on the Missouri River, Medora. Mt., near the Roosevelt National Park and Glendive, on the beautiful Yellowstone River. Many field of sunflowers were seen near Fargo and pasturelands full of cattle. A very scenic and interesting trip besides a great time with family members, especially the 13-month old great-grandson. Brendon. Toole. Mrs. Vee Shogren w ill be serving as hostess for the Koontz Lake Conservation Club dinner this Saturday evening followed by an hour of visitation and games. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Knowlton were in South Bend Sunday to visit their son. Ron. and family. In the morning they were guests of their son and family at the services of the Calvary Baptist Church for grandparents Day. followed by dinner at Bishops. Mrs. Margaret Cox. of Port Richey. Florida, is spending this week with her sister and brother-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Aw aid. Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Dunnuck, of South Bend, spent Friday and Friday night with her sister, Mrs. Fayette Dunn. Mrs. Robert Gore and daughter, Lisa, of Crete. Illinois, were also guests of Mrs. Dunn one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. Pat McNorton and two dauthers. of Hanover. Illinois, were here Sunday to visit her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Herald Hostetler. Mrs. Viola Barden and Mrs. Fritz Skinner were in South Bend Saturday to attend the wedding ceremony of Cheryl Vitou, and Millard Samarick Cheryl is a granddaughter of Mrs. Helen Smith, the former librarian in Walkerton for several years. The wedding was at 10 00 a m on the Century Center Island in South Bend. A reception was on Saturday evening at the Falcon Inn. in South Bend. On Saturday afternoon Mrs. Viola Barden. Mrs. Fritz Skinner and Mrs. Helen Smith attended a fiftieth wedding anniversary of
Helen Fouts Fettel in the Fullerton Baptist Church in Niles. Michigan. Sunday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Skinner visited Mr. and Mrs. Herman Ridgway in New Carlisle. Mr. and Mrs. James Gray, of Koontz Lake, were in Tinley Park, Illinois, over the Labor Day holidays to visit friends. Mrs. Carlisle Leslie and Mrs. Garland Lawrence came home on Tuesday afternoon from a week end visit with Mrs. Leslie's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Quinn, of Delphi Indiana. Mrs. Marcia Petersen, of LaPorte, formerly a Koontz. Lake resident for many years, w ill be spending a week with Mrs. Ruth Johnson. of Koontz Lake. Mr. James Holm, of Pierre, South Dakota, spent Wednesday night last week with Mr. and Mrs. Amos Bierly. Labor Day week end guests of their children and families were Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Holsinger, of West Terre Haute. Indiana. On Labor Day they and Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Holsinger and son. also of Terre Haute, who were here for the week end holiday, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Stull and family with other guests being Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Whitaker and family and Larry Corbett. A birthday party was given Sunday afternoon for Miss Libby Blackburn at the home of her grandmother, Mrs. Vada Stull. Her guests were Mrs. Carol and Troy Blackburn. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Stuil. Tom and David. Mr. and Mrs. Rex Stull and daughters. Mrs. Nellie Smith and Mr. James Foster and Bruce. Birthday cake, ice cream, gifts, etc., made an exciting day for Miss Blackburn. Mrs. Margaret Leßoy, of San Diego, California, has been here for the past month visiting her brother. Mr. and Mrs. William Morrison, of Rural Route 2. Walkerton, and other relatives and friends in the area. She was a week end guest of Mrs. Alma Daube and on Sunday Mrs. Esther Kaufman was also a dinner guest in the Daube home. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johnson returned last Friday from a 10 day vacation which was spent in Michigan. At Howell, Michigan, they visited Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Johnson and family and at Auburn their daughter and family. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kormelink. They also went to Frankenmuth, which is known the world over for its Chritmas decorations and displays. They had dinner at the famous Bavarian Inn. Mrs. Arthur DeMyer and her houseguests, Mr. and Mrs. George Quevreaux, of Kirkwood, Mo., were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Miller, in Bremen. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Hostetter were in Benton Harbor, Michigan, Monday to attend the funeral of Russell Brinley, who was a former resident of Walkerton. Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Burkhart, of Indianapolis, were week end guests of her daughter and son-in-law, Craig and Libby DeMyer. Mr. Dwight Steinke is a patient in the St. Joseph Hospital. South Bend. Cindy was saved four years ago while attending a service at Christian Centery. Cindy attended the University of Illinois and has taught in the inner-city schools of Chicago. Cindy now teaches Spanish at Calvary Temple School, South Bend. Cindy’s husband, Fayez, was born in Jerusalem and is from a Moslem background. Fayez is a manager for John Hancock Insurance. of interesting assignments ranging from simple library clerical work to challenging tasks involving more advanced library skills. Training will be provided, work schedules can be made flexible and volunteered hours will be recognized at the conclusion of the 1979-80 school year. Interested individuals can either call the North Liberty High School and leave name and phone number with the secretary or come and see Mrs. Huang at the library during any school day. TRI KAPPA NEWS The Epsilon Chi chapter of Tri Kappa met on Thursday evening, September 6, in the home of Mrs. Eileen Clark. Thirty-three members were present for roll call. Miss Susan Carter was initiated into the chapter. Mrs. Glenn Jacob, president, presided over the business meeting. Mrs. Clark, secretary, read the minutes from the previous meeting and Mrs. Roy Dayhuff, treasurer, submitted the financial report. Mrs. Gary Shields, corresponding secretary, read a thank you note from the Polk-Lincoln-Johnson Band Boosters and the Special Olympics committee thanking the chapter for their donations. Mrs. Richard Hershberger reported that the spring committee had met with great success. Several of their suggestions will be investigated further and discussed at the next meeting. Mrs. Gene Brems and Mrs. Michael Mollenhauer. co-chairman for the Fourth of July project reported there were still some T-shirts available to be purchased. Mrs. Robert Mercer. Christmas bazaar chairman, reported on plans for the upcoming bazaar. Deadline for the items will be November 15. Mrs. Mercer will by holding a workshop in her home on Wednesday. September 19 at 1:00 p.m. and Mrs. Charles Baker will hold a workshop in her home also on September 19 at 9:00 a.m. Entertainment for the evening was provided by Mrs. Gene Hardesty. Mrs. Robert Holland, Mrs. Roger Huizenga, Mrs. Donald Ludwig, Mrs. John McNeil, Mrs. Roger Norris, Mrs. Leo Savoie, Jr.. Mrs. John Thomas and Miss Susan Carter. It seems, quite often, as though wc are all so busy that we neglect to thank the people who give so much of their time and efforts to a project for everyone to enjoy. I would like to take this opportunity to say "Thank You" Rev. Saltzgaber and your great committee and to all the people who w orked so hard to make the third annual Potato Creek Festival such a big success. The hayrides. helicopter rides, the food, the fun. meeting old friends and new, the crafts to buy and admire, everything, it was a great two days.
