New Faces At North Liberty High School Several new staff personnel have been added at North Liberty High School including Mrs. Darnell Bailey to the business education department. Mrs. Bailey comes to North Liberty from John Adams High School and replaces Mr. Bob Gowin. who resigned to enter private business. Mrs. Gerry Chamberlin is the school nurse. She is a resident of North Liberty and replaces Mrs. Margaret Heim who is now enjoying her retirement. Mr. Barry Claywell is the new industrial arts teacher. He comes to us from John Glenn High School. Mrs. Geraldine Haung is the librarian replacing Mrs. Irene Jones Aho is now enjoying her retirement. Yet to be named is a vocal teacher. Mrs. Julie Mund has resigned in order to devote all her time to her new daughter, Nicole. The first day of school will be on Tuesday. September 4 at 8:15 a.m. Students will register, pay fees, received class schedules, obtain locker assignments and received orientation information. Book fees arc $ll.OO per semester. An additional fee of $5.00 for students enrolled in a physical education course will also be charge. Deadline for payment is September 21. Checks should be made payable to the South Bend Community School Corporation. The first full day of school will be on Wednesday from 8:15 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. Football season tickets are on sale in the school office. An adult season ticket good for five home games is $7.50; students, $3.75. Pre-sale tickets will be SI.OO for students and $1.75 for adults and at the gate adults will be $2.00 and students at $1.25. The price for a plate lunch remains at 50 cents for high school students. “All In The Family” At. NL Methodist Church Continuing a tradition that was initiated in 1977, the family of Rev. Gaylord Salrzgaber will present an entire worship service of music and song at the North Liberty United Methodist Church on Sunday. September 2. Singing together will be (jaylord and Carol Saltzgaber with daughters Amy Salt/gaber and Mrs. Bruce (Wendy) Weber. Individual numbers will be done by the pastor and Ann and Wendv. as well as duets by Amy and Wendv. Organist for the day will be Mrs. Mark (Connie) Salt/gaber. who will also present the offertory. The public is invited to attend this third annual musical worship service that commences with a “Gospel Hymn-Sing" at 9:15 am. with Mrs. Audine Manuel playing piano. Community Club Begins New Season Sept. 7 A luncheon to be held Friday. September 7. at the Plymouth Holiday Inn, will signal the season's opening of the Walkerton Woman's Community Club. Scheduled for 12:30 p.m. the cost will be $4.30. Reservations must be in no later than September 4 with checks made payable to the Woman's Community Club and sent to Mrs. John Schamer, Route 5, Box 151, Walkerton. Serving on the committee with Mrs. Schamer are Mrs. Ben Brede and Mrs. Gilbert Gordon . During the summer the Community Club bought two banquet tables, a clock and screening to repair the Community Building screens. This work has been done and all screens are now in place.

Adult Education At JGHS Begins September 10 The adult education classes at John Glenn High School will start on Monday night. September 10. at 7:00 p.m. in room 105 at John Glenn. Evening high school courses are open to anyone over sixteen years of age and not presently enrolled in high school. We need a minimum of ten students that have not graduated from high school, in order to hold a credit class. The fee for credit classes will be $9.25 per subject. Credit classes will be offered in English, sociology or economics, typing, office machines. mathematics, art and any other classes we have enough interest to offer a class in. Anyone interested in credit classes should attend the organizational meeting on Monday, September 10. A non-credit course will be offered in adult recreation on Thursday nights. The fee for adult recreation will be SIO.OO for ten classes or $1.25 per class. If you have any questions concerning any of the adult education classes call Alvin C. Boise, adult education director, at 586-3195. NOTICE The Lincoln Township Volunteer Fire Department. LaPorte County, is sponsoring a barbeued chicken supper and beer garden at their fire house, at Fish Lake, on State Road 4. on Saturday. September 1, from 4to 8 p.m. at $3.50 per plate. The beer garden will begin at noon. Ihe menu consists of Nelson's Port-A-Pit chicken, baked potato, cole slaw , bread and butter, beverage and ice cream. J.G. Volleyball Soap Games Set For Friday Night On Friday evening. August 31. at 7:00 p.m. at John Glenn High School, an intersquad match between members of the volleyball varsity and also an intersquad match between members of the junior varsity squad will be held with admission a bar of soap. This will be an opportunity for the community to preview the girls who will be playing for John Glenn this season. The winningest race horse of alt times is the Hungarian mare named Kincsem —a wonder mare who won 54 straight races and never lost a race before she died in 1888.
