LaPorte Fair Attractions From country and western to old time favorites to disco will all he a part of the entertainment package at the 19’9 LaPorte County Fair, according to Secretary-Manager John P. Daley. Headlining this year's fair musical attractions during the week of Aug. 7 12 will be recording star and disc jockey John Conlee. Conlee, 31, is making a living from both country music, one as a popular Nashville disc jockey and the other as a hit recording star. He has recently found success in the country music field with a hit tune he composed and sings, "Rose Colored Glasses". The song has hugged the number one spot on Houston radio station charts for more than 11 consecutive weeks and reached the top five on the national trade charts and sold more than 250.000 singles. Conlee left his deejay job to put all his energy into his new career. Years of songwriting and weeks of studio work went into his debut album, naturally titled "Rose Colored Glasses" His songwriting skills are exhibited in four of the album tunes and the rest are from Nashville poets Dave Loggins, Doodle Ownes and Rafe Van Hov. Conlee’s other hit recordings include "Lady Lay Down" and the "Backside of Thirty". Conlee will appear at the LaPorte fair Wednesday, August 8. at 8:00 p.m.. and on Thursday, August 9, at 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. Joining Conlee on the same program will be Clover Willis and her band. Ms. Willis has made appearances from the biggest concert stages and major nightclubs in the nation to the prestigious MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. She is frequently booked into the elite Country’ Music Jubilee in Columbus, Ohio. She recorded her first live album. "Clover Wilhs Live" at the Country Jubilees. She was chosen to be a part of the new pilot for "Hey Look" a TV personality feature modeled after People Magazine. For those w ho like nostalgia, the fair brings Jerry Murad's Harmonicats for a special Sunday afternoon performance in front of the grandstand on August 12 at 1:30. The Harmonicats will probably best be remembered for their recording of "Peg O'My Heart”, one of the all time best sellers in the history of the recording world. The act they will bring to the fair is complete with up-dated music, novelties and special material. They have played in major clubs throughout the United States. Canada, colleges, industrial shows, fairs, hotels and supper clubs, the group plays everything from country music to classics. Also featured with the Harmonicats will be the Farrell Sisters, exceptional accordianists. singers and dancers. Disco, the biggest phenomena of this decade, will also be a part of the 1979 fair when the Frew ay Power Disco will be offered dailv m a large tent on the west side of the main midway near the fair entrance. August 8-12. Disco with its pulsating music and dequenced lights will all be a part of the Pow er Frew ay Disco's entertainment center at the fair. Grandstand shows admission is free, although reserved box seats may be purchased
