Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Gwin. Walkerton. Maxine Long and Irene Thomas, of Grass. Creek. returned Saturday evening from a trip to Moosonee. Ontario. On the way north they stopped at Mackanac and at Sault St. Marie they watched the largest vessel of the Great Lakes go through the locks. In Canada they passed through Subbery North Bay. Letchfor to Cochrane. They left the car at Cochrane and rode the Polar Bear Express 18b miles north to Moonsonee. on the tide waters of James Bav. The group returned home by way of Toronto. Londa and Detroit. Gasoline was plentiful everywhere and cheaper per gallon than we pay here at home. The average price per gallon was 92.67 cents. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kerchaert left last week for Galveston, Texas, to visit their daughter and son-in-law. Dr. and Mrs. Patrick Kearney and family. On August 4 they wil! attend the wedding of their granddaughter. Diane Lynn Kearney, before returning home. Friday evening supper guests of the William Dicksons, of Koontz Lake, were Mrs. Paul Schavoni, of Koontz Lake, her sister, Mrs. Elsie Maradie, of Sandwich, Illinois, and Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Briggs and their two daughters, Diann and Kathy, of Seabrook, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Fitzgerald and family and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Younce, of Glendale, Arizona. came last week for a couple of weeks stay with Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Fitzgerald and Mr. and Mrs. James Capek, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Younce are visiting with relatives at Knox and Muncie. On Saturday evening the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. John Guttman, Walkerton, was celebrated with a dinner for the immediate family at the Come and Dine Restaurant, in Wakarusa.

Mr. and Mrs. James Guttman and family, of Sheridan, and Dr. and Mrs. John B. Guttman and family, of Wakarusa, hosted the dinner honoring the boys’ parents. Following the meal they all went to the home of Dr. and Mrs. Guttman in Wakarusa for a piece of anniversary cake. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Klinedinst and Mrs. Harry Doll were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stephenson, in Galveston, Indiana. On Sunday morning they attended the St. Lukes Methodist Church where Rev. Harold Williams is minister. Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Kronk were Mrs. Ruby McElhaney, of North Webster, whose birthday was celebrated with dinner in her sister's home. Other guests were Mrs. McElhaney’s son, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Rudig and son, Korey, of Manston, Wisconsin. Mrs. Russell Smith is entertaining the following guests in her home for several weeks. These are cousins from Kourtange, France. Mrs. Madeleine Schweiter and granddaughter, Laurence Bednarzyk. They are also making side trips to other places near by while here. On Wednesday of last week Mrs. Herman Henry entertained members of a club of former years and also were neighbors. Mrs. Martin Blad and daughter, Jan, Mrs. Helen Blad and daughter, Loraine, Mrs. Wayne Blad and Mrs. Larry Blad. This group meets each year and enjoys hashing over good times of the past. Mrs. John Guttman, Mrs. Robert Urbin and Mrs. Bertha Urbin were in Wakarusa Wednesday for a one o’clock luncheon in the home of Dr. James Miller. The occasion was a bridal shower given for Miss Elizabeth Guttman, of Wakarusa, who
will be married on August 11 to Mr. David Yoder. Mrs. Gregg Ramer and children are here spending a couple of weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Myron Mullet, at Koontz Lake. The Ramers are from Chattanooga, Tennessee. Mr. and Mrs. Burd Smith, of Koontz Lake, and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Chapman were Tuesday evening dinner guests of Mrs. Bess Ferverda. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Andrews, of Logansport, spent Tuesday, July 10, with Mr. and Mrs. John Guttman. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Huhnke returned last Tuesday from a fiveday visit in ElPaso, Illinois, with Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Blair, Miss Ruth Robbins and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Robbins. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Bierly spent several days last week in Cincinnati, Ohio, visiting friends, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schantz, and they also attended three ball games at Riverfront stadium while there. Mr. and Mrs. Philip Waldron and Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Elder will serve as hosts for the Koontz Lake Conservation club dinner Saturday evening. Mrs. Helen Smith, of South Bend, spent the week end here with her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Skinner. Mr. and Mrs. John Kaminski and family, of Hebron, were Sunday guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Clark. Mr. and Mrs. Morton R. Berger, of Phoenix, Arizona, are the parents of a daughter, Rachel Kimberly, born on July 3. The Bergers also have a daughter, Michelle Sara, age 2. Mrs. Berger is the former Carol Steele, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max Steel, North Liberty. The Steeles now have seven granddaughters and two grandsons. Mr. Clarence Hopper, of New Carlisle, was a Friday dinner guest of his mother. Mrs. Bess Hopper. Mrs. Gerald Heim and daughters and Mrs. Patrick Krol, South Bend, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Knowlton. Mrs. Ralph Jones, Koontz Lake, is a patient in the LaPorte Hospital. Mrs. Burnedette Davis was dismissed last week. Mr. and Mrs. Max Steele have returned from Phoenix, Arizona, where they visited with their daughter, Mrs. Morton R. Berger, and family. Enroute the Steeles also visited another daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Comer and family, in Security, Colorado. Mrs. Robert Johnson and Mrs. Oren Duthie went to Matoon, Illinois, last week to visit with Mrs. Johnson’s brother, Charles Williams and to Charleston, Illinois to visit with Mrs. Hazel Biunschien. Mrs. Evelene Thomas has received word her grandson, Emery J. Thomas, of Las Vegas, New Mexico, has arrived in Stavanger. Norway, for a career with Phillips Petroleum Company. He is joining the Natural Resource Division of the Phillips Petroleum Company as a safety engineer and will be assigned to off-shore oil drilling rigs in the North Sea. Recently he graduated from Oklahoma State University, in Stillwater, with a Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology. While at OSU, he was a student fire fighter for the city of Stillwater. He worked parttime for the Safety Department of OSU as a fire and safety inspector. He also worked at Oklahoma Furniture Manufacturing Company in Guthcrie, Oklahoma, where he was responsible for the complete inspection of the fire protection equipment. Thomas graduated from Robertson High School in Las Vegas. New Mexico, in 1973. BRIDAL SHOWER Miss Theresa Hillman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hillman, North Liberty, was honored at a bridal shower Sunday afternoon, July 15, at the Walkerton Com-
munity Building. Hosted by Mrs. Elsie Heimer, Miss Shirley Vermilyer and Miss Debbie Hillman, the bride-to-be was greeted from two to four o’clock by a large attendance of friends and relatives. Tables for the guests were in the colors chosen by the bride-to-be, colors of green and white. White bells, green streamers and white bud vases of pastel crochet flowers and an assortment of crochet dolls on tissue holders, displayed, were used as prizes for the interesting contests conducted by Miss Debbie Hillman. As Miss Hillman opened her many gifts, the guests were served dainty cakes, candies, mints, coffee and punch from a white skirted table. Miss Hillman and Robert Eu-
Starke County 4-H Fair July 22-28 The Starke County 4-H Fair will open on Sunday. July 22 and run through Saturday, July 28 at the fairgrounds in Hamlet. This is the 38th annual fair for Starke County. The schedule is as follows: SUNDAY, JULY 22 12:00 noon - 2:00 p.m. — 4-H Horse and Pony exhibits to be brought in. 2:30 to 3:00 p.m. — Swine carcass show entries to be brought in. 3:00 p.m. — On foot swine show in show arena. 2:30 to 8:00 p.m. — 4-H Horse and Ponv judging at the track. MONDAY, JULY 23 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon — All open class home economics exhibits to be brought in. 4-H Horse and Pony judging continues ail day. 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. — 4-H Exhibits open to the public. 6:30 p.m. — 4-H Horse and Pony show with grand entry and drill team exhibition. TUESDAY, JULY 24 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon — All 4-H Livestock to be brought in. 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. — All 4-H Exhibits open to the public. 1:00 p.m. — Horse and Pony trial class judging. 1:30 p.m. — Rabbit judging in the arena. 7:00 p.m. — 4-H Fashion Show and the crowning of the 4-H King and Queen. 8:00 p.m. — Annual pig scramble. WEDNESDAY, JULY 25 8:30 a.m. — Sheep show. 1:30 p.m. — Dairy and goat show. 6:30 p.m. — Beef show. THURSDAY, JULY 26 8:30 a.m. — Swine show. 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon — Open class flowers to be brought in. 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. — Horse and pony western pleasure and games judging. 7:30 p.m. — Tractor operators contest and fashion review. FRIDAY, JULY 27 10:00 a.m. — Dog show. 10:00 p.m. — All exhibits will be released. SATURDAY, JULY 28 7:00 a.m. — Animals purchased at the sale will be released to buyers. 2:00 p.m. — Pet parade, decorated bicycles, bicycle races for all ages. 7:00 p.m. — “Tons of Fun” singing group to perform. 8:00 p.m. — Antique tractor pull. 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. — Junior Leaders dance.
