The drive held on April 6 and 7 was co-sponsored by the Tootsie Roll Company. A Tootsie Roll was gjven to each donor in appreciation of their generosity. Pictured from the left are Doug Rice, K of C community director and chairman of the drive; Richard Cleary who is accepting the check as director of the St. Joseph County Council for the Retarded and Chuck Dobis, Grand Knight of Council 5709. The drive netted $743.89. The Kof C’s would like to thank again all who donated time or money to this worthy cause. They also would like to thank the merchants who let them warm themselves in the entrances of their stores and some even offered coffee.
HOLD JOHNSON TOWNSHIP FARM BUREAU PICNIC The Johnson Township Farm Bureau picnic was held on Sunday, July 8, at the home of Mrs. Alma Daube with a carry-in dinner. Mrs. Esther Kaufman gave the table prayer. The afternoon was spent visiting and with games of bingo. Winners were Ann Spencer, Mrs. Harold Knowlton, Floyd Dipert and Mrs. Daube. Tiffany Hesters received the award for the youngest present;
Esther Kaufman, for the oldest woman present; and Sidney Smith for the oldest male present. Those on the committee were Mr. and Mrs. Leßoy Johnson, Mrs. Ann Spencer and Martha Mull. POTATO CREEK FESTIVAL “Tater Trot” Entry Blank The second annual 10,000 meter (6.2 miles) Tater Trot. A new course this year that begins in beautiful Potato Creek State Recreation Area and finishes in North Liberty, Indiana. There will be splits at one and three miles along with aid stations.
