WEMSA Plans Fund Raisers For New Building Members of the WEMSA are in the process of having several fund raising projects to raise money for their new ambulance building which must be built before winter arrives. According to Larry Dill. WEMSA member, it will take an estimated $20,000 for the building itself and the labor. That amount does not

include the land it will be built on. However, due to financial conditions, the Walkerton P-L-J Ambulance Board has informed the WEMSA members that the board will provide monies for the materials, but the WEMSA members have been asked to do the labor. But when you consider that each WEMSA member has his own job to go to and then they are usually on call for the ambulance after, there isn’t much time left for them to erect this building. So with this in mind the WEMSA members are asking the community for their
help. Larry Dill said, “Mainly we need funds to hire someone to erect a functional building which could house the two ambulances now and could later be finished inside by WEMSA members and other volunteers. We need people with time, talent, skills, materials and mostly funds. We need organizations that would like to put on a fund raising event for us and then donate the profit for the labor to erect this building.” The ambulance building will in effect benefit the public. It will house a training room which will be used for schooling and training of WEMSA members and also to hold CPR classes there for the public. The new ambulance building is needed because of crowded conditions at its present site in the water and electric departments garage. The present site has caused unworkable conditions for both the ambulance crew and the town employees. At this site now there is no training room and they have parking problems. At present the WEMSA members have already made plans for some fund raising projects. During the week of July 4 they will have two booths down at Place Park. One will be a dunk tank and the other a game of chance. The first of September they are planning to have an adult dance. The first of November they will be having a feather party and they are trying to schedule a walk-a-thon by September along with other projects still being planned. Another problem the WEMSA members must face is that they now have no land to erect the building on. Last March they were told by the town board that they could have land next to the tennis courts on Washington Street, but since then they have been informed that this land was deeded to the town and designated as park ground only. j obituaries BEN F.
