Kari Ann Arementrout and Calvin V. Whitmer were united in marriage during a three o’clock in the afternoon double-ring ceremony in the Christian Center, South Bend, on Saturday. April 7. Pastor Lester Sumrail performed the ceremony. “Westminster Chimes” and “Largo” were played by the organist. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Aremntrout, Route 4. Walkerton and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Whitmer, Route 1. Walkerton. The bride chose an ivory ruffled gown trimmed with ribbon and lace. The contest will be this Saturday, April 21. with the public showing on Sunday, April 22 from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. All entries are to be brought to the John Glenn High School dining commons on Saturday between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Registration is still open to all students in kindergarten through 12th grades and adults living within the Polk-Lincoln-Johnson and St. Patrick's school systems. this paper. Mrs. Savoie received a B.S. in Art Education from Indiana University South Bend. Her art methods courses were taken at St. Mary's College. She is currently teaching elementary art (grades 1-6) at Ore-gon-Davis Elementary School. Ms. Savoie is especially interested in watercolors and needlework. Mr. Hoover received a B.F.A. from Indiana University, Bloomington. He earned an M.F.A. from Notre Dame. He currently teaches drawing, graphics and photography at Riley High School. He is also a part time instructor at Indiana University South Bend. Mr. Hoover has exhibited at shows and galleries all over the midwest. His works currently hang in the Chicago Gallery. Plan now to attend the Arts and Crafts Show, hear the John Glenn High School Jazz Band and help to choose the Most Popular Exhibit. POPPY DAY FACTS Did You Know? The red crepe paper memorial poppies worn throughout the nation on Poppy Day are made by veterans in hospitals and workshops in 40 states. These disabled servicemen are paid for each handmade poppy they make, and the materials are furnished free by the American Legion Auxiliary in the states where the hospitals are located. On Poppy Day each year more than 25 million poppies made by disabled veterans are distributed throughout the country under supervision of the American Legion Auxiliary. Approximately 125 thousand volunteer workers from the Auxiliary and other organizations take part in this annual program. Poppy Day is coming in May! NIPSCO JOINS SUIT 1 AGAINST METER MANUFACTURERS ’ Northern Indiana Public Service • Company has joined several United I States utilities in a class action law suit which charges three major meter manufacturers with illegal 1 pricing practices. NIPSCO filed with the U. S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania to join the civil action against Rockwell Interna- ■ tional Corporation. The Singer Company and Textron. Inc. The utility said it was seeking triple damages from the three companies for purchases dating 1971 through 1977. Total figures for purchases have not been established at this time. The meters are used to measure consumption of natural gas by utility company customers. Jim Clark Has Art Works On Display At K.L. 1 Oil paintings done by Jim Clark, of Koontz Lake, are at the Koontz Lake Library for the whole month of April. Jim has covered a variety- of ' subjects but his pictures are all of 1 the beauty of the rural country side. 1 its lakes, streams, woodlands, old churches and church yards, old barns and bridges. His miniatures include flowers, the seasons, sunsets and windmills. The snow scenes, even after last winter, sitll inspire admiration. He also has a picture of the old Koontz, grist mill. The library is open every afternoon except Thursday and Sunday, from 1:00 to 5:30 C.S.T. and on Wednesday from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. C.S.T. Visitors are welcome. The word "cheerful" is said to come from the Latin cara, meaning "face."
