JkMw Monday evening the PU Band Awards Banquet was held in the John Glenn High School with the following being honored, from left to right, seated: Sherri Klinedinst, outstanding freshman award; Alice Conrad, four year Pom Pom Service Award; and Mary Capek. four year Drum Major Service Award, PLJ Band Boosters Memorial Scholarship and the John Phillip Sousa Award. The Polk-Lincoln-Johnson Bands Awards banquet was held on Mondav evening, April lb, at the John Glenn High School with over 200 persons in attendance. Ihe evening began at 7 o'clock with a dinner in the dining commons and Rev. Curtis Peacock gave the invocation. Hollowing the meal patrons adjourned to the auditorium where the Jazz Band played three selections. Rev. Dester Cummins was master of ceremonies. Mrs. Wyman Hochstetler presented door prizes to Mrs. Nellie Smith. Mrs. Curtis Peacock. Mrs. Edward Klopfenstein, Mrs. Dale Fansler, Mr. Warner Clark, Mr. Ed Klopfenstein and Mr. Russell Jimerson. Band director, Mr. Dennis Bloomfield, presented all sixth graders with service awards and each sophomore received an award sweater. Members of the junior class were awarded blankets. The following individuals were honored. The outstanding sixth grader was Dick Fansler; in seventh grade. Elizabeth Menges; in eighth grade. Carey Zartmen and ninth grade. Sherry Klinedinst. Pompom awards went to Alice Conrad. Jean Baughman and Anita Ecker. Mary Capek received the drum major award and the John Philip Sousa award. The band parent of the year aw ard went to Mrs. Wayne Hostetler and the outgoing band booster officers were given monogramed key chains by Mrs Larry Burch. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the PU Band Booster Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $200.00 to Mary Capek, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Capek. Mary will enter college this fall to major in music. Mr. Morns Searfoss, president of the boosters, presented this award to Miss Capek. J he Band Awards Banquet is an annual spring event sponsored by the boosters. Mrs. James Barrett served as this year's chairman. She and the members of her committee wish to thank all those who attended. N.L.H.S.
